Trump Declares New York a ‘Rigged City’ in Courthouse Rant After Judge Refuses to Delay His Trial
Former President Donald Trump declared New York City is “rigged” on Thursday following a judge dismissing his legal team’s attempts to delay his criminal trial. A trial date was set for March 25, a date Trump attorney Todd Blanche called a “great injustice.”
After Thursday’s hearing before Judge Juan Merchan, Trump made his way to press cameras and took a shot at President Joe Biden while declaring he’s “stuck” because of the trial.
“Instead of being in South Carolina and other states campaigning, I’m stuck here,” he said. “It’s an election interference case. Nobody’s ever seen anything like it in this country. It’s a disgrace. It’s a disgraceful situation actually and we’ll just have to figure it out. I’ll be here during the day and I’ll be campaigning at night. Biden should be doing the same thing, but he’ll be sleeping.”
Trump echoed past criticisms of New York Attorney General Letitia James and declared New York, a state once so closely tied to his brand, is “rigged.”
“It’s a rigged state, it’s a rigged city,” he said, going on to urge James and others to focus on crime in the city, specifically “migrant crime.”
Trump’s comments were covered by cable news outlets while they also broadcast a hearing in Georgia where prosecutor Nathan Wade was brought to the stand and questioned on his relationship to Fulton County, Georgia Attorney General Fani Willis. Willis is behind indictments of Trump and more than a dozen accomplices in an election racketeering case related to Trump’s efforts to overturn the results in the state. Willis has been accused of an inappropriate relationship with Wade that allegedly began before Wade joined the team prosecuting Trump and his allies.
The former president’s motion to dismiss charges related to a hush money payment allegedly made to adult film star Stormy Daniels was denied by the judge on Thursday. Trump is being charged with dozens of crimes, including falsifying business records. It’s one of four criminal indictments he’s facing.
