House Republicans’ star witness in their push to impeach President Joe Biden was discredited when it was revealed that he lied to the FBI, but a writer for the New York Post thinks he might have a “different story to tell” — if he doesn’t die first in prison like Jeffrey Epstein did.

The NY Post‘s Miranda Devine promoted her new column on Fox Business Network with credulous host Maria Bartiromo, and they both spent the segment trashing the FBI, Hunter Biden, and Democrats who argue the impeachment inquiry is dead in the water. There still has been no evidence presented that connects the president to his son’s business dealings, as other Fox anchors have reported, but Devine said that Alexander Smirnov, the FBI informant who made the false bribery accusations against the Bidens, was not even that big of a part of the Republicans’ case against them. In fact, he had almost nothing to do with it!

Yeah, like in [Rep. Jamie Raskin’s (D-MD)] dreams that this has anything to do with the impeachment inquiry. The impeachment inquiry is trucking along quite nicely. Smirnov was irrelevant. In fact, Smirnov wasn’t even going to be in the final — oh, well, we didn’t know it was Smirnov — but you know that, confidential human source report, the FD 1023, wasn’t even going to be in the final report, I’m told, because it basically [Rep. Jamie Comer (R-KY)] and the rest of the Republicans did not know who the informant was. It was up to the FBI to investigate that allegation.

And as we know, David Weiss in Delaware inexplicably sat on that allegation for three years. He did not show it to the IRS investigators who felt so startled and upset about that that they came back to Congress and made a special statement saying they were never shown those allegations. And if they had been as they should have been, they would have thoroughly investigated them.

This whole, indictment is very peculiar if you look at it closely. I think if he isn’t Epstein’d in jail, if he isn’t coerced to have a plea deal and keep his mouth shut, if his lawyers are allowed to mount a defense in court, I think it’ll be a very different story than the one that we’re seeing in the indictment. And it’s very curious that they’ve thrown this valuable, 13-year, highly-paid informant under the bus and sent a chill on every other confidential informant for the FBI. I can’t imagine that the on the ground FBI people, the few of them who actually are fighting crime are happy about that.

Devine has long been one of the right’s key media figures pushing the allegations of corruption against the Bidens in her New York Post opinion columns.
