Mayonnaise does not belong on an Oreo cookie.

We – all of us – instinctively know this. It’s why this post is marked as “Sports,” as opposed to “Opinion.” And if someone insisted otherwise, you would not believe that person. You would not believe that person because to do so would also mean believing that person needs a team of psychiatrists. “This person’s just trolling,” you’d say.

After all, trolls can be ignored. But eventually, all crazy must be reckoned with.

So what does one make of what occurred during ESPN’s Thursday telecast of something called the Duke’s Mayo Bowl? While we’d love to tell you how South Carolina downed UNC 38-21, there is a far more pressing and disturbing matter to discuss.

No, it was not the gross “mayo bath” that South Carolina coach Shane Beamer received upon coaching his team to victory – the result of a deranged bet with opposing coach Mack Brown.

Instead, the most notable moment of the telecast occurred in the broadcast booth. That is where Mike Golic Jr. committed a most egregious mayo-related crime against humanity. Not only did the former Notre Dame football standout dip an Oreo cookie in Duke’s Mayonnaise and eat it, he insisted to the viewing public – with a straight face – that it actually tasted good.

“Well, in the spirit of this bowl game,” said play-by-play man Anish Shroff, “and the in spirit of my partner Mike Golic Jr. – Mike, you came up with ideas of unconventional foods that work with mayonnaise.”

Golic held up what appeared to be an Oreo. “Cream-filled cookies here,” said Golic.

“You first,” said Shroff.

Then, in the most unsightly scene on a football broadcast since Lawrence Taylor shattered Joe Theismann’s leg, Golic dipped the Oreo in the mayonnaise and ate it.

“It’s a really interesting blend of flavors,” said Golic. “Thumbs up from me!”

Shroff, who followed suit, was subdued in his reaction.

“Oh, Anish,” said Golic. “We’re gonna need someone up here to call that drive. He’s not doing well. I’ve seen that face.”

“I’m working on it,” replied Shroff, who continued calling the action. “Ty Chandler to the outside, still have this Oreo cookie in my mouth. I will say, the aftertaste, actually not bad.”

“I’m telling you!” exclaimed Golic.

Ultimately, this mayo just be a case of Golic trying to be a team player by insisting the product of the bowl’s sponsor goes well with anything. It could also be grounds for commitment where the incident occurred.

“That b*tch Naomi Osaka who didn’t wanna do the interviews, shut the f*ck up,” Dillon said during an August edition of The Tim Dillon Show. “Do the f*cking interviews you dumb b*tch.”

“I’ve had enough with the mental health,” Dillon added. My mother is a legit mental patient…and do you know what genuinely mentally ill people think? They think they SHOULD be in the Olympics.”

9. George Clooney Goes Off on Rust Crew and Execs Over ‘Infuriating’ Gun Safety Issues: ‘A Lot of Stupid Mistakes’

Clooney sat down with Marc Maron for the 1279th episode of the WTF podcast, during which he railed against the executives and crew of the film Rust for failing to implement adequate gun safety measures.

“Look, he may be a dick, I don’t know the guy at all, but I’ve been on sets for 40 years and the person that hands you the gun, the person that is responsible for the gun, is either the prop person or the armorer, period,” Clooney said.

“Every single time I’m handed a gun on set — every time — they hand me a gun, I look at it, I open it. I show it to the person I’m pointing it to, I show it to the crew,” Clooney said of working with guns on set following Lee’s death. “It’s a series of tragedies,” Clooney said, adding, “But also, a lot of stupid mistakes.”

ESPN’s Sage Steele was a guest on Jay Cutler’s podcast, where she told the former NFL quarterback that she only received the vaccine to avoid getting booted off ESPN’s programming.

“I respect everyone’s decision; I really do,” Steele said on the podcast. “To mandate it is sick and scary to me in many ways, but I have a job. A job that I love, and frankly, a job that I need, but again I love it. I’m not surprised it got to this point, especially with Disney, a global company… but it was actually emotional”

7. Howard Stern Roasts Joe Rogan For Taking Ivermectin Instead of ‘Cure’ Vaccine

Howard Stern has taken multiple shots at Joe Rogan throughout 2021 for crediting ivermectin for his recovery from the coronavirus when he could have just gotten vaccinated instead.

“I heard Joe Rogan was saying ‘what are you busting my balls [for]? I took horse de-wormer and a doctor gave it to me.’ Well a doctor would also give you a vaccine, so why take horse-dewormer?”

Stern then mocked how “all this anti-science goes out the window” when people wind up in the emergency room for Covid. “There’s never been one that said ‘I’m so glad I refused. I’m so happy that I can’t breathe. This is a wonderful way to die, it was worth it because I didn’t take the vaccine,’” Stern said.

6. Joe Rogan Tears Into CNN’s Brian Stelter: ‘Hey Motherf*cker, You’re Supposed To Be A Journalist’

Joe Rogan ripped CNN’s Brian Stelter during a June episode of The Joe Rogan Experience. Speaking with Kyle Kulinski, Rogan referenced an unspecified segment on CNN about the popularity of many YouTubers and podcasters, who in some cases receive more viewers than large cable networks such as CNN.

“This is because the market has spoken and your show’s fucking terrible,” said Rogan, addressing the ratings battles. “Brian Stelter’s show keeps slipping and slipping and slipping in the ratings. Same with Don Lemon’s. It’s the same thing. Everybody knows they’re not real. They’re not real humans.”

Rogan then torched Stelter for his recent interview with White House press secretary Jen Psaki, in which he asked, “What does the press get wrong when covering Biden’s agenda?” Critics panned Stelter as “fawning,” “bootlicking,” and “gooey,” among other imaginative descriptions.

“How about Brian Stelter talking to the press secretary saying, ‘What are we doing wrong? What are we doing wrong?’ Like, hey motherfucker, you’re supposed to be a journalist.”

5. Bill Burr Blasts ‘F*cking Morons’ at CNN For Continuing to Cover Trump: ‘They Want Darth Vader to Come Back’

Comedian Bill Burr torched cable news networks as “fucking treasonous un-American pieces of shit” in a rant, reserving particular ire for the “fucking morons” at CNN who continue to cover Donald Trump.

“My mother-in-law comes over to help watch the kids,” Burr said during a July episode of his Monday Morning podcast. “And she always puts on CNN.”

“And do you know what those fucking morons are doing? Do you know what those fucking morons are doing? They’re fucking talking about Trump. I swear to god. I cannot believe people watch that channel they’re so dumb,” he said, before accusing CNN of boosting the former president for ratings.

“They want Darth Vader to come back. They want him to come back cause they have nothing to talk about ’cause it’s show business and Joe Biden is a fucking bore!”

4. Megyn Kelly on Capitol Riot: ‘No Question the Media Represented it as So Much Worse Than it Actually Was’

Megyn Kelly claimed that “there is no question” the media misrepresented the January 6 insurrection, making it “much worse than it actually was.”

Kelly made the comment during a July podcast episode of The Megyn Kelly Show with comedian Chrissie Mayr, who explained that she attended Donald Trump’s January 6 rally, which ultimately descended into a violent insurrection.

“I mean, it was horrible, like, like, Ashli Babbitt was murdered — should not have happened, but for a group who could have come fully armed to the Capitol, they didn’t,” Mayr said. “It was extremely peaceful and chill and most of us didn’t even know what was happening until hours later.”

After noting that Trump never verbally told his supporters to charge at the Capitol, joking that he didn’t channel William Wallace, Mayr claimed that people didn’t realize the insurrection was “the most chill thing ever.”

“There is no question the media represented it as so much worse than it actually was,” Kelly agreed.

3. Ken Burns Says Current Times ‘Equal’ to Civil War, Depression and World War II: ‘It’s Really Serious’

Historian and documentary filmmaker Ken Burns said that the present day is one of the worst times in American history.

Burns made the remark during a September episode of SmartLess podcast, hosted by Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, and Sean Hayes, comparing current events with the Civil War, the Depression, and World War II.

“It’s really serious. There are three great crises before this: the Civil War, the Depression, and World War II. This is equal to it,” he said.

2. Aaron Rodgers GOES OFF on Backlash to News He’s Unvaccinated: ‘I’m in the Crosshairs of the Woke Mob’

Following two days of being chastised for his decision to not only skip the Covid vaccine, but deceive people into believing he was inoculated, Aaron Rodgers spoke out during a November edition of The Pat McAfee Show. 

“I realize I’m in the crosshairs of the woke mob right now,” Rodgers said. “So before my final nail gets put in my cancel culture casket I think I’d like to set the record straight on so many of the blatant lies that are out there about myself right now.”

“First of all I didn’t lie in the initial press conference,” Rodgers claimed.

Rodgers was alluding to his initial response when asked if he was vaccinated. In August, Rodgers answered the question by saying, “yeah, I’m immunized.” His answer led everyone to assume he was vaccinated when in fact he was not. The quarterback instead received a homeopathic immunization treatment which is not recognized as being vaccinated.

“I have followed every protocol to a tee,” Rodgers said, except for wearing a mask during press conferences, a rule he feels is unnecessary because reporters stand far away from the podium. “Makes absolutely no sense to me.”

Dr. Sanjay Gupta appeared on The Joe Rogan Experience back in October and admitted that it was improper for  CNN to claim Rogan took “horse dewormer” as a COVID treatment.

I’m glad you’re better,” Gupta said.

“Thank you,” Rogan responded. “You’re probably the only one at CNN who’s glad. The rest of them are all lying about me taking horse medication.”

“That bothered you,” Gupta said.

“It should bother you too,” Rogan responded. “They’re lying at your network about people taking human drugs versus drugs for veterinary.”

“Calling it a ‘horse dewormer’ is not the most flattering thing, I get that,” Gupta conceded.

“It’s a lie,” Rogan pushed back again. “It’s a lie on a news network.”

“They shouldn’t have said that,” Gupta admitted.

The Twitter account belonging to Republican members of the House judiciary committee posted and deleted a tweet that read, “If the booster shots work, why don’t they work?”

The tweet was posted on Thursday and deleted on Friday after it was widely ridiculed. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) is the leading Republican on the judiciary committee. In November, he revealed he had Covid-19 in the summer and refused to say if he is vaccinated.

Almost verbatim, the deleted tweet echoed a false anti-vaccine post from right-wing provocateur Charlie Kirk on the platform earlier in the week. “If the vaccine works, then why doesn’t it work?”

Many conservatives have seized upon rising Covid-19 cases – especially among vaccinated people – as “evidence” that the vaccine doesn’t work. What most of them fail to note, however, is that vaccinated people are much, much less likely to become severely ill or die from the virus.

Subsequent to the deleted tweet, the House judiciary GOP also tweeted out an ABC report about the United States averaging more Covid cases per day than at any point during the pandemic.

“Good job, Joe Biden,” the account tweeted.

The president has repeatedly urged Americans to get vaccinated, but many refuse. Sixty-two percent of unvaccinated Americans say they will never get a Covid shot of any kind.

In recent weeks, former President Donald Trump has made some of his strongest comments speaking to the effectiveness of the vaccine. During a recent interview with anti-vaxx pundit Candace Owens, Trump pushed back when she suggested the vaccine isn’t particularly effective.

“Oh no, the vaccine works, but some people aren’t the ones,” he said. “The ones who get very sick and go to the hospital are the ones that don’t take the vaccine. But it’s still their choice. And if you take the vaccine, you’re protected.”

Despite what manufacturers want you to think, buying an expensive, high-end mattress isn’t going to magically solve all of your sleep problems. Sleeping on a mattress that sags or dips in the middle can, however, make it much harder to get a restful night’s sleep.

Outgoing Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) called out fellow Republican Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) on Wednesday night after the Texas senator made a major factual error in attacking Democrats over Covid-19 restrictions.

Cruz falsely accused Washington state Democrats of banning dancing, tweeting:

Cruz later deleted the tweet, but the screen shot went viral and Kinzinger decided to retweet it. Kinzinger wrote of Cruz’s tweet:

Cruz had based his tweet on a Twitter thread which included an image of a Facebook comment. In the image a verified user labeled “WA Government” wrote, “Dancing is strictly not permitted” in response to a user’s question.

While Cruz decided to spread the information he found on social media without verifying its credibility, he also mistook “WA Government” as Washington state, when it was more likely the government of Western Australia.

Police in Southern China are publicly shaming people accused of violating coronavirus protocols by parading them in hazmat suits.

CNN showed the footage, courtesy of the Chinese social media site Weibo, during CNN Newsroom on Thursday that shows police in Jingxi on Tuesday marching in front of crowds four people who allegedly violated Covid protocols. Each alleged violator was shown wearing a hazmat suit, face mask, and goggles and carried a placard with their name and photo. The four were accused of human smuggling across the Vietnam-China border.

China, where Covid originated, has imposed strict lockdowns throughout the country as part of its “zero Covid” approach. In Xi’an, its 13 million residents must stay at home and driving is prohibited. The lockdown was put in effect on Dec. 22 in the city, which is in the northwestern part of the country.

Until this week, a family member was allowed to go outside to get groceries once every two days. Now, only authorities can get groceries for Xi’an’s residents, though some have lamented on Weibo “that they have not received the same deliveries in their communities. Many worried if they will be able to obtain fresh vegetables and meat,” according to the Associated Press.

Conservative radio host Erick Erickson shared a wild story on Wednesday that he’s recovering from a head injury that sent him into a partially-amnesiac state.

Erickson explained that he received a set of Parsons Xtreme golf clubs this Christmas, and he took his son to the driving range to try them out. Erickson said he was standing behind his son to help him with his swing, but he got too close and was clonked in the head by a club:

I got a set of @pxg clubs for Christmas. I took my son to the driving range yesterday. From there, my memory kinda breaks down. I was helping my 13yo with his swing and stood behind him, but too far forward. He took a 2″ divet out of my scalp on the forward swing.

Erickson explained how he went back and forth between coherence and having difficulty recalling who he was and why he was in the hospital. He said that he’s doing better though, announcing there’s “no fracture, no bleeding, no swelling.”

Have you ever used a door? You know, the movable rectangular panel, usually made of wood or metal, that separates rooms or covers the entrances to buildings and opens by sliding, spinning, or moving on a hinge? The Economist had Twitter users wondering if their staff had much experience with these magical objects known as “doors” when they tweeted that the Covid-19 pandemic was “like a doorway,” and “[o]nce you pass through, there is no going back.”

“The new normal is already here,” said the article excerpt included in the tweet. “Get used to it. The era of unpredictable predictability is not going away.”

Only two paragraphs of the article are viewable outside of The Economist’s paywall, and they argue that 2022 will not see a reversion to pre-Covid policies, but instead we should expect a “new normal” of the “turmoil and bewilderment of the pandemic era.”

The article then makes a comparison to the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and the new rules that were imposed on air travel. “Flying did not return to normal, nor did it establish a new routine. Instead, everything was permanently up for revision.”

That certainly sounds like a plausible argument that can be made to describe the ongoing development of Covid-19 policies, but it still doesn’t make sense to compare the pandemic to a doorway, which, as anyone who possesses enough functioning brain cells to register for a Twitter account (a patently low number, but I digress) understands, is a passageway that, in normal non-science fiction contexts, does not permanently seal itself off after you go through it once.

Predictably, Twitter users had an absolute blast dunking on The Economist for seeming to not understand how doors work, with several users jokingly worrying about people being trapped in their offices.

LeBron James was widely criticized for sharing a controversial meme that appeared to compare Covid to the flu last week. When asked about the reaction Tuesday night, James defended his motives for sharing the meme.

The image, posted on Instagram, featured three identical Spider-Man characters pointing at each other while displaying the labels Covid, cold and flu – implying there is no difference between the three illnesses. James was condemned for the meme, especially by NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who blasted the current Lakers star for encouraging “vaccine hesitancy.”

Following the Lakers’ Tuesday night victory over the Houston Rockets, James told reporters he had no response to Abdul-Jabbar, but he did proceed to defend the meme.

“If you saw the post and you read the tag, you know that I’m literally, honestly asking, ‘help me out.’ Help me kind of figure it all out, like we’re all trying to figure this pandemic out,” James said

“I think people forgot about the flu,” he added. “People like literally forgot about the flu during these times like that’s still going around, it’s flu season. People have forgot about the flu, people have forgot about common colds. That happens, especially with a lot of our kids that’s in school.”

Despite high rates of vaccination, ranging between 95 and 99 percent, the NBA, NFL and NHL have suffered significant Covid outbreaks in recent weeks, mirroring the increased rate of infection seen throughout the country. Luckily, most pro athletes have not experienced severe symptoms, which is causing leagues to lessen quarantine time periods for players who test positive.

Five anti-vaccine protesters were arrested in New York City after storming a Burger King, prompting others at the demonstration to call NYPD officers “Nazis” and the “Gestapo.”

A group of mask-free protesters entered the Burger King in Downtown Brooklyn on Monday night in order to object to New York City’s Covid-19 vaccine mandates, according to amNY.

The city currently requires vaccination to dine inside, as well as to enter gyms and other indoor businesses.

The NYPD was called after the protesters refused to leave the establishment. According to the New York Post, they arrested Michael Mitchell, 36, Augusto Alarcon, 39, Ethan Boisvert, 41, Mitchell Bosch, 41, and Bradford Solomon, 44.

The NYPD warns that Burger King has asked the antivaxxers to leave.

The organization Patriot Takes posted footage of the protests and the ensuing arrests, revealing that Bosch had attended a previous anti-vaccine protest at a Cheesecake Factory.

Tom Brady said  his goal for 2022  is to be more like the reporter who asked Patriots coach Bill Belichick what his New Year’s resolution was after a divisional loss.

“I want to be as brave and courageous as she was asking that question to Coach Belichick after a loss,” Brady jokingly said on the latest edition of SiriusXM’s Let’s Go! podcast. “That’s what I want for the new year. That was awesome. Good for her.”

Brady said Belichick’s terse response to the reporter didn’t come as much of a surprise. “I could have predicted that answer. That’s usually not the best time to ask a coach things like that after a tough loss.”

Aside from striving to be more like the now viral reporter, Brady laid out a few other New Year resolutions. “I think I’m going to splurge for a local gym membership,” Brady said. “At 44 I got to stay in shape.”

Brady also said he wants to cut back on his NFT budget and throwing surface screens.

Sarah Weddington, a lawyer who successfully argued the landmark abortion rights case Roe v. Wade at just 26-years-old, died on Sunday.

According to Weddington’s former student Susan Hays, who spoke The Texas Tribune, the former attorney passed at 76 following a series of health issues.

While Weddington was in poor health, her cause of death is not clear, and she was found unresponsive in her Austin home early Sunday by her assistant.

She was born in Abilene, Texas, in 1945 and attended McMurry University before graduating from the University of Texas School of Law in 1967.

It was just five years later that she represented Norma McCorvey, known in court documents as “Jane Roe”, before the Supreme Court, successfully affirming the woman’s right to have an abortion under the 14th Amendment to the Constitution.

Weddington later ran to represent Austin in the Texas House of Representatives and was elected in 1972, serving three terms as a state lawmaker.

She would go on to become general counsel of the United States Department of Agriculture and later worked as an advisor on women’s issues to former President Jimmy Carter. 

In addition to her political work, Weddington was also a professor at the University of Texas at Austin for 28 years, where she taught courses on gender-based discrimination.

Weddington’s death comes as the Supreme Court is considering Mississippi’s highly controversial abortion case, which is largely considered to be the most legitimate challenge to the Roe decision in recent years.

Carter remembered Weddington in a statement Monday morning, according to CNN, saying she “was a warrior in the continuing struggle for equal rights for women. She dedicated her life to that mission and was a leading force for these rights in my administration. Rosalynn and I add our voices to those who mourn her passing.”

Reuters White House Correspondent Jeff Mason remarked on Sunday on MSNBC that the interviews Vice President Kamala Harris has done lately is apparently part of the White House’s strategy of trying to “rehabilitate an image that definitely took a hit in the first year of the Biden-Harris administration.”

Alex Witt Reports did a segment on Harris’ interview with CBS News last week, playing clips of the interview where Face the Nation anchor Margaret Brennan asking Harris whether the intense criticism she has gotten “is fair” and if she’s “being set up to fail.”

“No,” said Harris. “I don’t believe I’m being set up to fail.”

“But more important, I’m vice president of the United States,” she added. “Anything that I handle is because it’s a tough issue and it couldn’t be handled at some other level.”

“Is the fact that you’re a woman and the fact you’re a minority in this office part of why there is such scrutiny,” asked Brennan.

“I’ll leave that for others to deal with. You know, I have a job to do,” replied Harris. “And I’m going to get that job done.”

Witt then brought in Mason to give his reaction to the excerpt clips from the CBS interview.

“I think that putting her out there and having her doing interviews is one piece of what appears to be an increasing White House strategy of trying to rehabilitate an image that definitely took a hit in the first year of the Biden-Harris administration,” said Mason.

“And having her do that interview, having her do some of the other interviews she’s done is putting her out there and having her address that question very specifically and her answer saying, ‘Hey, I’m going to let that be decided or be analyzed by other people’ is an on-message answer,” he continued. “She’s saying I have a job to do and it’s my job to focus on it.”

CNN played a recording on Sunday of a threatening and profane voice message sent to Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-MI).

The soundbite was played during a segment on State of the Union with Jake Tapper and Dana Bash featuring Dingell and Rep. Fred Upton (R-MI).

“You goddamn old senile b*tch. You’re as old and ugly as Biden,” said the unidentified caller in the voicemail. “You ought to get the f*ck off the planet. You f*cking foul b*tch … They ought to f*ckung try you for treason, b*tch. You and every one of your scumbag f*cking friends … I hope your family dies in front of you. I pray to God, if you’ve got any children, they die in your face.”

The cuss words were bleeped.

“I’ve been getting those for a couple of years,” said Dingell following the soundbite.

“Terrible,” said Upton.

“A couple of years,” asked Bash.

“A couple of years. Ever since at Christmastime the Christmas right after John had died,” said Dingell, referring to her late husband Rep. John Dingell (D-MI), whom she succeeded in 2015. “President [Donald] Trump was in Michigan.”

“Once you’re in that Trump hate tunnel, you kind of don’t escape it,” she added. “There are a lot of good people out there who are really wonderful to me, etc. We average those several a week and, you know, we’re used to it.”

Dingell remarked that she plays the threatening and profane voicemails as “almost like a therapy,” though she cautioned that “we got to be careful not to normalize it.”

Dingell went on to say that she is not intimidated by the hateful voice messages.

“But I’m not going to not do my job,” she said. “I’m not going to go out and not be with people. I’m not going to go out and not list to them.”

Dingell then reflected on the toxicity nationwide and the shooting earlier this month at Oxford High School in her home state where four lives were taken.

“I want the American people to think about what’s happening in our country, that this kind of hate, this fear is happening in communities across the country,” she said. “You know, if you even look at the horrific shooting that killed children in our state, they were living with parents that were reflecting – he was living with parents this had some of that.”

“We need to really worry about our democracy, and find a way that you can disagree with people and do it in a civil and agreeable way,” continued Dingell. “And it real does have me very worried.”

New York Knicks fans weren’t really in the Christmas spirit on Saturday afternoon at Madison Square Garden.

During the fourth quarter of New York’s blowout victory over Atlanta at Madison Square Garden, Knicks fans serenaded Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young — despite Young missing the game due to the league’s Covid protocols.

“FUCK TRAE YOU-NG!” The crowd chanted. “FUCK TRAE YOU-NG!”

The animus between the Knicks faithful and the Atlanta guard dates back to last year’s playoffs, in which the Hawks defeated New York in five games. Young was brilliant in each of the five contests, and egged the crowd on at various points — encouraging them to boo him as he continued to dominate the series. While the dynamic between Young and Knicks fans has mostly been in good fun, one fan went way too far last year and tried to spit on Young. That fan was subsequently banned for like from MSG.

The NBA had intended to make Young’s return to the Garden an event — giving it a high-profile showcase on Christmas Day. But Young was one of nine Hawks to miss the game due to the league’s Covid protocol. The Knicks also lost seven players to the Covid protocol over the past two weeks, plus star guard Derrick Rose is out for at least eight weeks with an ankle injury.
