There is a very long list of things that Marjorie Taylor Greene has said publicly that clearly show she is a moron. But her recent lamentation of the National Guard protecting the Capitol building for the inauguration of Joe Biden rises to a new level of idiocy.

During a House Republican press conference, the Republican Congresswoman from Georgia defended the protest of “election integrity” on January 6th, 2021 despite the fact it was violent and then-President Donald Trump lost over 60 court cases without ever being able to prove election fraud. But she then had the temerity to blame security measures taken after the Capitol riots, suggesting that the presence of the National Guard for the peaceful transfer of power fourteen days later was the actual insurrection:

And then the American people who pay for elections with their tax dollars actually own the elections. And have had the right. The right to care about their elections, election integrity, and the results of their elections when they came to Washington and protested. All of you call it an insurrection. And then when Joe Biden was inaugurated and this entire Capitol complex was surrounded with 30,000 National Guard troops, none of you stood there and called that an insurrection. Oh, no. You all stayed silent? No.

Of course, the reason that there was a heavy security presence at the Capitol was precisely due to the violent actions of Trump supporters who breached the Capitol seeking to interrupt the certification of the Electoral College and “Stop the Steal,” when, in fact, there was no evidence the election had been stolen.

In sociological terms, this is a bastardized version of “blaming the victim.” The Capitol was victim to an unruly and violent mob on January 6th, which led to the reasonable decision to beef up security on January 20th.

Rep. Taylor Greene is simply too stupid to understand that, however.
