Trump Lawyer Alina Habba Complains Judge Wouldn’t Let Jurors Off For Jewish Holiday — Which Is False
Trump attorney Alina Habba complained to Fox News that Judge Juan Merchan refused to let jurors off for the Jewish holy days of Passover — which is just as false as her insistence former President Donald Trump was denied time off to attend his son Barron Trump’s graduation.
Both Trump and Habba have falsely complained that Judge Merchan won’t give him time off for Barron’s graduation, when the Judge actually stated he would rule on the request at a later time.
On Thursday morning’s edition of Fox News Channel’s Fox & Friends First, Habba complained to co-anchors Carley Shimkus and Todd Piro about the case, and the schedule:
TODD PIRO: Alina, great to have you back on the program based upon what happened yesterday. Do you think Donald J. Trump will be able to get a fair trial?
ALINA HABBA: There’s no chance. There’s no chance of a fair trial here. Remember, just because it’s a jury doesn’t mean that the judge can’t sway them to go one way or another, or make things difficult so that jury selection is impossible. That’s what’s happening.
Yesterday, they spent the first few hours doing things that probably should have been done before a jury was waiting. That discourages jurors to want to sit on a panel, and then they come in and they’re told that they can’t get off from Passover if they observe it, and that you’re going to have no break other than Wednesday in the middle of the week.
So that messes up everybody’s schedules and people don’t want to sit for that. That’s why we saw half of the jurors say that they could not be impartial and want to walk.
But the judge actually told the courtroom that there would be “no proceedings on any day or time that conflicts with the religious observance of any sworn juror.”
Shimkus headed off the false claim about the graduation by restating it that Trump “might not be able to take off one day to see his son graduate high school.”
