Trump-Backed Senate Candidate Suggests People In Nursing Homes Too Close to Death to Vote
Eric Hovde, the Trump-endorsed Republican candidate for Senate in Wisconsin, told Fox News’s Guy Benson in a recent interview that he was suspicious of votes coming from nursing homes.
Hovde, a former banking executive, told Benson that while he does not believe the 2020 election was stolen (as Donald Trump claims), he did see some irregularities in Wisconsin – particularly in nursing homes.
“I’m not going to spend my time talking about 2020. Do I believe the election was stolen? No. But did things happen in that election that were very troublesome? Absolutely,” Hovde said, adding:
And I can point them out right here in Wisconsin. We had Zucker Bucks come in to Democratic cities in a big way to push out working with cities to push out Democratic votes. We had nursing homes where the sheriff of Racine investigated, where you had 100% voting in nursing homes. Well, if you’re in a nursing home, you only have five six months life expectancy. Almost nobody in a nursing home is in a point to vote.
Hovde’s claim that people in nursing homes are not at a point in their lives to vote is a particularly odd one as older Americans, 65 and up, remain the most active voting block in the country – making up 34 percent of the electorate in the 2022 midterms.
Hovde is the leading candidate in a crowded GOP primary set for August to see who will take on two-term Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) in the November general election.
