Biden Has Two Words When Pressed On How Americans Should Feel About Arizona Abortion Law

By News Here - 12:07

President Joe Biden had a pithy response to NBC’s Peter Alexander asking about Arizona’s draconian abortion ban during a press conference with Japanese PM Fumio Kishida.

On Tuesday, Arizona’s Supreme Court upheld a 123-year-old penal code provision that bans nearly all abortions except to save the life of the mother. After the ruling, the state’s attorney general, Kris Mayes, vowed not to prosecute abortion providers and called the law, which can trace its origin as far back as 1864, “draconian.”

Alexander confronted Biden at the tail end of the joint press event on the White House Lawn, asking, “What do you say to the people of Arizona right now who are witnessing a law go in place that dates back to the Civil War era?”

“Elect me,” he tersely replied, adding, “I’m in the 21st century, not back then when [they] weren’t even a state” — in reference to the Arizona law that predates their statehood.

“Thank you all very much,” Biden said as he walked away before addressing a question about funding for Ukraine, “The war in Ukraine comes to an end by the House and later allow a vote,” Biden added. “There’s overwhelming support for Ukraine among the majority of Democrats and Republicans. There should be a vote now,” he said before leaving.
