The family of NFL running back O.J. Simpson revealed the infamous celebrity died on Thursday at the age of 76 after a battle with prostate cancer.

Simpson’s death has been a reminder to many of how he captured the country’s attention, first in the best ways and then the most horrific ways after he was charged in 1994 with the murders of Ron Goldman and Simpson’s ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson. Simpson was acquitted of the charges after a controversial trial in Los Angeles, but he was later found responsible for the deaths in a civil suit.

Simpson served nine years in prison in Nevada after being convicted on robbery charges in 2008. He was released on parole in 2017. The controversial figure was a regular on X, formerly Twitter, but he mostly steered clear of interviews.

Before his conviction, Simpson seemed unafraid of cameras even as the double murder of his ex-wife and Goldman loomed over every interaction.

Here is a look at five of the wildest O.J. Simpson interview moments following his shocking acquittal. From offering a hypothetical confession to his ex-wife’s murder to telling her sister she wanted to have sex with him, O.J. Simpson had some truly wild interviews.

O.J. Simpson pretends to stab Ruby Wax: In a 1998 interview with Ruby Wax, Simpson lashed out at media coverage of his trial and denied any involvement in the murders he was accused of committing.

After the interview concluded, Simpson invited Wax back to his hotel room for a “surprise.” As the door opened, a grinning Simpson appeared with a banana in his hand and pretended to stab Wax. Brown and Goldman were both stabbed to death.

“I think it was his idea of a joke,” Wax said during the broadcast.

O.J. Simpson says he’s close to finding his ex-wife’s killers: O.J. Simpson made a vow after being found not guilty of murder that he would personally work to find the killers of Brown and Goldman.

Gary Garver asked Simpson about this supposed investigation while the athlete was playing golf in 1998 in a clip that was roasted on The Howard Stern Show. It was one of multiple encounters between Garver and Simpson.

Simpson claimed he had “information” on the murders, but needed help from the Los Angeles Police Department. He later laughed about Fred Goldman, the father of Ron Goldman, trying to take his “money,” referring to the successful civil suit that found Simpson responsible for the murders after he was acquitted in the criminal trial.

O.J. Simpson calls into Fox to argue with Nicole Brown’s sister: O.J. Simpson called into a 2000 broadcast by Shepard Smith for Fox News. Nicole Brown Simpson’s sister, Denise Brown, was in studio and she and Simpson exchanged insults as she accused him of murdering her sister.

“You murdered Nicole and you know you did it,’ Denise Brown said as she pushed Simpson to take a lie detector test. Simpson denied previously taking a partial lie detector test.

At one point, things got so out of hand that Simpson accused his dead ex-wife’s sister of wanting to have sex with him.

“We didn’t get along because you couldn’t control me,” she told him.

“We didn’t get along because Nicole was afraid you were going to have sex with me,” Simpson said.

“Your ego is riding a little bit too high,” Brown responded, calling him a “pig.”

Simpson reportedly called his former mother-in-law to apologize for the televised fight.

O.J. Simpson wins over Wendy Williams: During an interview on WBLS with Wendy Williams, Simpson found himself receiving a few rare public compliments.

During the interview, Williams said she was told not to ask about “the incident,” meaning the murders.

After a tense exchange, Williams ended up reluctantly admitting she was charmed by Simpson.

“O.J., I want to say I don’t like you and I can’t stand you,” she said. “I want to call you names, I want to throw you right out of here, but you know what?” A few moments later, she gasped at laughed as he hugged her.

O.J. “confesses” to murders: Perhaps Simpson’s most bizarre career move after he was acquitted of murder was helping to pen a book called If I Did It. In the book, ghostwritten by Pablo Fenjves, Simpson describes his marriage to Nicole Brown Simpson, but later dives into the night of the murders.

Simpson lays out a “hypothetical” scenario of what could have happened even introducing an internal accomplice named “Charlie.” Ron Goldman’s family ended up suing over the book and won the rights to the book’s profits in 2007 in part to help pay their civil judgment against Simpson.

According to Simpson’s former manager, the athlete had no involvement in the book. Simpson did, however, appear in a scrapped 2006 Fox interview where he laid out his “purely hypothetical” scenario. The broadcast was later revived and shown in 2018.

“I know and I accept that people are going to feel whatever they’re going to feel,” Simpson said in the interview.

In a truly bizarre exchange, Simpson essentially confesses to the murders while saying numerous times that he’s only playing out a hypothetical. He recalled confronting his ex-wife and her falling (in this hypothetical) and then blacking out and being covered in blood. He also recalled this hypothetical “Charlie” telling him about a relationship between Brown and Goldman.
