ABC released a short teaser of their upcoming Roseanne spinoff The Conners.
Earlier this year, the debut of the Roseanne reboot was a smash hit, reaching over 27 million viewers. However, its star Roseanne Barr caused a major PR problem for the network after she made a racially charged tweet about Valerie Jarrett.
ABC canceled her show within hours.
The network announced several days later that they were reviving the show without Roseanne, calling it The Conners.
The 15-second teaser shows the iconic Conner living room with Carly Simon‘s hit song “Anticipation” playing. Then text appears.
“What’s next?” the teaser asks, followed by The Conners logo, which is in the same font as the Roseanne logo.
Here is the official synopsis:
“After a sudden turn of events, the Conners are forced to face the daily struggles of life in Lanford in a way they never have before. This iconic family — Dan, Jackie, Darlene, Becky and D.J. — grapples with parenthood, dating, an unexpected pregnancy, financial pressures, aging and in-laws in working-class America. Through it all, the fights, the coupon cutting, the hand-me-downs, the breakdowns — with love, humor and perseverance, the family prevails.”
It is unclear at this point if The Conners will be as big of a ratings draw as Roseanne. One of the biggest selling points to the sitcom’s reboot is that Roseanne’s character Roseanne Barr was a Trump supporter. The premiere tackled politics head-on with Roseanne Conner butting heads with her sister Jackie (played by Laurie Metcalf), who had joined the #Resistance.
The Conners is set to premiere Tuesday, October 16.
