Klobuchar ‘Stunned’ By Kavanaugh’s Response to Drinking Questions: His Claims Don’t ‘Make Sense’

By News Here - 08:25

Following a contentious exchange with Judge Brett Kavanaugh during last week’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) said she was shocked by the SCOTUS nominee’s behavior as she grilled him about his drinking habits.

“I was really stunned about how he acted at that hearing,” she told CNN’s Jake Tapper in a Sunday interview, noting that it was “basically a job interview for the highest court of the land.”

On Thursday, as Kavanaugh testified before committee members including Klobuchar, she pressed him to admit whether he’d ever experienced a blackout as a result of excessive drinking. The judge then turned the tables on the senator, asking, “I don’t know, have you?” After a short recess, he apologized for the remark.

However, Klobuchar doesn’t seem to buy Kavanaugh’s claim that he hasn’t suffered memory loss from alcohol consumption.

“It doesn’t quite make sense to me,” she said, adding that “you have these other people from parts of his life who have said that he was belligerent when he was drunk and other things.”

Now, the senator would like to see those individuals questioned by FBI investigators, hoping to get to the bottom of allegations from Christine Blasey Ford who claims to have been sexually assaulted by Kavanaugh in the 1980s.

“We know that she passed a polygraph test, which while not admissible in regular courts, is used all the time for FBI, for CIA, for Defense Department, and she passed it with flying colors,” Klobuchar said. “So these are the things that the FBI could look at if they evaluate the credibility of the witnesses.”
