Alyssa Milano on Going to Kavanaugh Hearing: Was ‘Important to Stand in Solidarity with Dr. Ford’

By News Here - 00:10

There were a number of protesters and activists in D.C. for the Brett Kavanaugh hearing, and among them was actress Alyssa Milano, who spoke to CNN this afternoon about why she decided to attend.

She first reacted to the FBI supplemental investigation, telling Ana Cabrera that “a fair process starts with a real investigation.” Milano commended Senator Jeff Flake and the women who confronted him yesterday in the elevator hours before he called for the one-week delay.

Regarding the hearing itself, Milano said, “I don’t believe that any man’s misogyny should take precedent over a survivor’s humanity, and I thought it was important to stand in solidarity with Dr. Ford and all women and men who have been victims of crazy abuses of power. And I felt blessed to be able to do that and to be there no matter how stoic I had to be.”

Part of their efforts on the Hill included going to the offices of senators including Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski to share personal stories of assault.

“Not one of those senators came out to hear our stories in person,” Milano said. “We feel as survivors that our voices and our experiences are constantly just swept under the rug.”

She ripped Kavanaugh over his testimony, saying that “if a woman acted like that during a line of questioning, she have been considered totally unhinged.”

At one point Cabrera asked about criticism she got for “taking photos or videos during the testimonies.” Milano said she was yelled at by the police for taking videos and she was respectful after being warned.
