President Donald Trump warned warned Elon Musk there will be “very serious consequences” should he decide to throw some of his billions into efforts to oppose Republican lawmakers supporting the president’s budget.

In a Saturday interview with NBC News, the president opened up about his war of words with Musk this week. On Thursday, Trump said he was “disappointed” in Musk criticizing his “Big Beautiful Bill,” which Musk says will add to the deficit.

Things escalated to the point that Trump threatened to cancel Musk’s government contracts and Musk accused Trump of being in the “Epstein files.”

Musk has now scrubbed that Epstein accusation and others targeting Trump from X, as of Saturday.

“If he does, he’ll have to pay the consequences for that,” Trump told NBC about Musk potentially using his wealth to back Democratic candidates to push out Republicans lawmakers who backed Trump’s budget.

Musk previously declared those who support the bill should be “fired” from office.

“He’ll have to pay very serious consequences if he does that,” Trump said.

The president made it clear he has no intention of speaking with Musk and their relationship is over.

“I’m too busy doing other things,” he said.

Trump accused Musk of being “disrespectful” to the office of the president.

“I think it’s a very bad thing, because he’s very disrespectful. You could not disrespect the office of the President,” he said.

Trump dismissed Musk’s Epstein talk as “old news,” noting that the fact that he had met Epstein is no secret. The late billionaire was a convicted sexual predator and the “Epstein files” are said to contain a list of associates who flew to Epstein’s private island where the billionaire was accused of trafficking and assaulting women.

The president claimed Musk’s insults have backfired as Republicans are now “more united than ever” behind the budget bill.

“I think, actually, Elon brought out the strengths of the bill because people that weren’t as focused started focusing on it, and they see how good it is,” he said. “So in that sense, there was a big favor. But I think Elon, really, I think it’s a shame that he’s so depressed and so heartbroken.”
