Fox News Channel’s Bret Baier busted out an impression of President Donald Trump to recall a time Trump dressed the reporter down.

Baier joined David Remnick on The New Yorker Radio Hour this week where he discussed his 27 year career at Fox, heated interviews he conducted with both Trump and former Vice President Kamala Harris, and he even launched into a Trump impersonation while discussing his professional and personal relationship with the president.

During the interview, Remnick brought up a June 2023 interview between Trump and Baier that Trump called “nasty” after Baier told Trump he lost the 2020 presidential election as Trump continued insisting their was mass fraudulence.

Baier argued Trump has a “love-hate” relationship with Fox News and the press overall as he will lash out but also directly speak to reporters he has problems with. Baier noted he and many other journalists have Trump’s personal phone number.

Baier called the exchange “tough, but fair,” acknowledging that media outlets dismissing Hunter Biden’s infamous abandoned laptop could have influenced the election results.

“He’s called me, you know, ‘I’ll tell you what Bret, you are a five, sometimes you’re a four, you’re nowhere near a seven.’ That’s my best Trump,” Baier said after busting out his impression.

“That’s pretty good! I have to say,” Remnick said. “I have to say, not bad at all, but what do you do when he lies?”

Baier said you “fact check” as much as you can in real time, saying he tried to do so in their interview.

Baier chalked up Trump’s sometimes contentious relationship with the press as a “cat and mouse game” similar to what Trump did when he was a real estate mogul in New York.

“I think it is part of the man. I think it is part of his time here in New York as a New York real estate mogul, and the rough and tumble to punch back and to characterize your opposition before they can characterize you. I think that’s part of it,” he said. “I think it is this cat-and-mouse game. You know, for all of the things he says about the media. Again, he’s reaching out and doing interviews with the same people he says are nasty.”
