Marjorie Taylor Greene Wildly Defends Not Voting For Anti-Semitism Bill: ‘Prioritizing One Group’ Fuels Anti-Semitism

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) defended her decision not to vote for a resolution condemning anti-Semitism this week by arguing that Congress is overly focused on condemning anti-Semitism. She went on to argue Congress “prioritizing one group of Americans and/or one foreign country above our own people” — presumably referring to Jews and Israel — is actually creating more anti-Semitism.
“Antisemitic hate crimes are wrong, but so are all hate crimes. Yet Congress never votes on hate crimes committed against white people, Christians, men, the homeless, or countless others,” Greene wrote on X following the House passing two resolutions condemning anti-Semitism.
One bipartisan resolution condemning a series of recent anti-Semitic attacks passed the House nearly unanimously, while a second GOP-backed resolution passed by a 280-133 margin – as it slammed Colorado’s immigration laws, which Republicans blamed for the recent Boulder attack on pro-Israel activists by a migrant who overstayed his visa.
Greene added in her post, “Tonight, the House passed two more antisemitism-related resolutions, the 20th and 21st I’ve voted on since taking office. Meanwhile, Americans from every background are being murdered — even in the womb — and Congress stays silent. We don’t vote on endless resolutions defending them.”
She then dabbled in a bit of victim blaming, adding, “Prioritizing one group of Americans and/or one foreign country above our own people is fueling resentment and actually driving more division, including antisemitism. These crimes are horrific and easy for me to denounce. But because of the reasons I stated above, I voted present.”
Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) replied to Greene, “Marjorie, I encourage you to read this @AJCGlobal report in the link below. It will help give you a greater understanding of why combatting antisemitism is vital — and why it’s incumbent upon us all to fight back.”
Other commentators accused Greene of dabbling in anti-Semitism herself by suggesting that focusing on crimes against Jews was somehow creating more of them:
