House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) laid into Republicans for their “political stunts” at Thursday night’s State of the Union address, calling them “a complete embarrassment!”

During his weekly press briefing on Friday, Jeffries brought visual aids to illustrate his point that “Extreme MAGA Republicans” had no “decorum.”

Two enlarged photos were set up on easels beside Jeffries; one of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) wearing a red MAGA hat sporting the number “45” and shouting while the president spoke, and the other of disgraced Rep. George Santos (D-NY) sitting next to Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) before he was asked to give up his spot so that “current members would have a seat.” Santos ended up standing in the back of the House chamber.

“We’re just asking our Republican colleagues to stop the political stunts,” Jeffries said. “That was an embarrassment last night. A complete embarrassment!

“Marjorie Taylor Greene, who’s basically running the House Republican Conference, shows up in campaign paraphernalia. And then these people want to lecture Joe Biden because he delivered a strong and forceful speech that made them uncomfortable because they exposed their lies and shamelessness? We have one message for extreme MAGA Republicans who want to lecture us about decorum: Get lost! You’re a joke,” he said.

In addition to attending the SOTU, Santos announced on X (formerly Twitter) Thursday that he would be running for Congress once again, despite having been expelled in December for “ethics violations” that included lying about his background.

“It’s kind of an extraordinary thing that this guy won’t go away,” Jeffries said when asked to comment. “But it’s indicative of the reality that there’s a clear choice in terms of what the American people face between Democrats and Republicans.”

Earlier in his press briefing, Jeffries praised Biden’s energetic speech.

“Smokin’ Joe Biden was on fire during the State of the Union address. He was lit, delivered a compelling vision for the American people, and crushed MAGA extremism,” he said.

Jeffries added, “Here’s what the American people are going to face over the next few months: Team Normal vs. Team Chaos. Team Reasonable vs. Team Dysfunction. And Team ‘Get Stuff Done’ vs. Team Extreme. Team Biden vs. Team Marjorie Taylor Greene and George Santos. And that’s a clear choice for the American people.”
