Trump Refuses to Blame Putin for Navalny’s Death: ‘Can’t Say For Sure’

By News Here - 12:07

Former President Donald Trump refused to officially blame Russian President Vladimir Putin for the death of opposition leader Alexei Navalny.

During a Sunday Fox News interview, host Howard Kurtz pressed Trump on whether he believes the Kremlin played a role in Navalny’s sudden death while incarcerated at a notorious prison in Siberia.

Back in February, the Russian prison system announced that Navalny had died at the age of 47, claiming that he lost consciousness during a morning walk and collapsed. His death brought widespread condemnation of the Kremlin from world leaders, including President Joe Biden.

When asked if Putin was responsible for his death, Trump answered, “I don’t know,” and added “something happened that was unusual.”

“You certainly can’t say for sure,” said Trump. “But certainly that would look like something very bad happened. Right?.”

KURTZ: Do you believe Vladimir Putin has some responsibility for the death of Alexei Navalny?

TRUMP: I don’t know, but perhaps I mean, possibly I could say probably, I don’t know. He’s a young man, so statistically he’d be alive for a long time. If you go by the insurance numbers, he’d be alive for another 40 years. So something happened that was unusual.

KURTZ: Well, obviously, he survived a poisoning attempt by the Kremlin and barely lived. Went back. Got jailed, and then suddenly he keels over. They don’t release the body. I mean, how could anything like that happen without Putin and high ranking Kremlin officials sanctioning it?

TRUMP: Well, I don’t know, you certainly can’t say for sure, but certainly that would look like something very bad happened, right?

KURTZ: I think we can agree on that.
