Gavin Newsom Calls Fox News ‘Quite Literally Bullsh*t and Misinformation’ — But Reportedly Watches Network Religiously
California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom believes Fox News is “quite literally bullshit and misinformation” but has become obsessed with watching and appearing on the network, according to a new report.
Newsom sat down last week for an interview with Semafor in a hotel near the second GOP debate in Simi Valley. At the same event, Newsom also appeared for an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity. The governor noted to Semafor that Fox traffics misinformation in a “24/7 doom loop for fear and anger.
However, Newsom does not want to stop watching the network and encourages other Democrats to do the same.
“I’m not naive, I’m not moving the needle at all,” he said. “The deeper question is: What do we do as Democrats to infect that ecosystem with some reality checks? And it can’t be episodic — you’ve got to go on 24/7.”
Newsom has shown his face on the network twice in a sit-down interview with Hannity that was setup personally between the two via text. Moreover, he has a laundry list of conservative media he consumes on a daily basis and is the most notable Democrat in the country that routinely posts on Donald Trump’s Truth Social platform.
According to Semafor, Newsom has a detailed schedule for his right-wing media daily consumption:
Newsom often begins his day with the Righting, a newsletter roundup of conservative media clips from the previous day. He takes a break for Stephen A. Smith on ESPN’s First Take, then flips the TV in his office to Fox News for The Faulkner Files a daytime Fox show hosted by conservative host Harris Faulker. His father-in-law, a conservative, will often text him Wall Street Journal stories and op-eds and links to other right-wing sites.
Over the course of a half an hour, Newsom rattled off detailed reviews of several popular right wing commentators. He said his staff asked him to stop consuming content from Daily Wire founder Ben Shapiro, which he admitted has been more difficult for him to give up than The Joe Rogan Experience, a podcast which Newsom said he no longer listens to. (Rogan is particularly critical of the governor’s stewardship of California.)
Newsom concluded that his strategy is to fill conservative news airwaves with counter-messaging at events. such as the GOP debate, where large conservative audiences will be tuning in.
“But [Republican] presidential candidates] are getting all the airtime they’re polluting the airwaves with a lot of bullshit. And we have got to have a counteroffensive. So my No. 1 strategy tonight is to communicate that and say to Democrats, ‘let’s go to war.’ This is serious. Trump can win,” he said
