Libertarian presidential candidate Michael Rectenwald confirmed to reporters on Sunday that he ingested drugs before taking the stage to bash former President Donald Trump after his speech at the party’s convention, saying it’s “not some sort of a major political scandal” to do so at the Libertarian convention.

Trump spoke at the party’s convention in Washington D.C. on Saturday evening where he was met with boos and a hostile audience, as did his boosters. Many of the attendees criticized the party’s leadership for allowing Trump to speak at the convention.

Following the Republican nominee’s remarks, Recetenwald went on stage to react to Trump’s speech, saying that it “so foolish” he wasn’t able to “take it that seriously.”

He said he wouldn’t even try to “run down a litany of all the egregious offenses against our freedom” from Trump’s administration. But Rectenwald appeared to stumble over some of his words, prompting some to question his sobriety. One person asking point blank, “How are you?”

A member of the audience then shouted, “How high are you?” Rectenwald then answered, “Not high enough…Hey, I’m living liberty today.”

Following the conference, Rectenwald confirmed to Washington Post reporter Meryl Kornfield that he ate an edible before answering the questions on stage.

“This was not some sort of a major political scandal, okay. I wasn’t found in bed with Stormy Daniels. I’m at a Libertarian Party convention. Somebody offered me something,” Rectenwald told Kornfield.
