George Conway Predicts 12 Jurors Won’t Vote to Acquit Trump: ‘Best Shot’ For The Defense Is Just One Holdout
Attorney and conservative political pundit George Conway predicted that defendant Donald Trump will not be unanimously acquitted in his hush money trial once jurors get the case next week.
Conway, who is a vocal critic of Trump, told MSNBC’s Katie Phang Saturday that there’s just too much evidence against the former president for 12 jurors to find him not guilty on all 34 felony counts of business fraud and election interference.
“All of the testimony that we’ve heard just has Trump neck-deep in all of this,” Conway said. “And it’s going to be hard for the jury not to conclude that he didn’t cause all of this. And it’s going to be hard for the jury not to conclude that the purpose of it was to aid the election campaign, in which case, it was a campaign finance violation.” Conway continued:
So, the defense has its work cut out for it. But all the defense has to do is convince one juror to hang the group. I don’t think they can get an acquittal. I don’t think they’re going to get 12 votes unanimously to acquit him. I think their best shot, and that’s what they’re gonna do, is hope that there’s just some person on the jury who just refuses to convict. And I think that’s going to be really, really hard, with Trump having signed eight of those checks. And, also, the attempts — so much other evidence — But the attempts to basically conceal it all. I’m not sure how an good outcome, other than a luck of the draw mistrial on a hung jury — 11 to 1, or 10 to 2 — I don’t see a good outcome for Donald Trump from this.
Closing arguments are set to begin on Tuesday, with the defense going first, followed by the prosecution.
Trump has pleaded not guilty to charges he paid $130,000 to porn actress Stormy Daniels to keep her quiet about an alleged affair before the 2016 presidential election.
