Trump Legal Defense Fund Raises Just $1.6 Million in 6 Months as Former President Leans Into Trading Card Business

The official legal defense fund for former President Donald Trump has raised just $1.6 million over a six month timeframe according to a new report from The Daily Beast.

What’s more is that the Patriot Legal Defense Fund, set up by Trump’s presidential campaign over the summer, hauled in $1 million of that stockpile from a single couple. It has spent less than $30,000 of the funds it’s raised so far.

Here’s how those funds have been used, per the Beast:

The fund says its purpose is to “raise money and pay for or help defray legal expenses related to defending against legal actions arising from an individual or group’s participation in the political process.” But none of its expenses appear related to that mission.

In fact, the Patriot Legal Defense Fund spent just $28,578 over the last six months, with Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club getting $18,136 for “banquet hall” fees in late November. The second biggest payout went to Trump political adviser Michael Glassner, who runs the fund and received $2,500 for “consulting,” paid through his public affairs firm C&M Transcontinental.

A representative for the fund did not immediately reply to The Daily Beast’s request for comment.

It’s unclear why the fund reported no legal expenses. Trump has been hemorrhaging cash for years due to ever-mounting legal fees, and that pressure has only increased after the PLDF launched in July.

The news of the PLDF’s less-than-impressive haul comes as the former president continues to hawk digital trading cards he introduced last December.

“My last two Trump digital trading card collections sold out in just hours, and now I’m back with my latest series, called the ‘Mugshot Edition,’ I wonder where that came from,” declared Trump in a video on Truth Social Tuesday.

“Some people call these cards pop art or modern art. I wish I looked as good as I do on those cards, that I can tell you. They give me muscles where, believe me, I don’t have them,” he continued.

Trump is offering an actual, physical card to those who spend over $4,600 on 47 or more digital cards.
