Shari Redstone in Talks to Sell Controlling Stake in CBS, MTV, Paramount and Other Media Properties: Report
A new report reveals that a potentially massive sale which could alter the American media landscape is in the works.
According to The New York Times, Shari Redstone — the media titan who owns National Amusements, which is the parent company of CBS, Paramount, and other major media properties — is in talks to sell her empire. The Times reports National Amusements has been talking with Skydance — a media studio best known for putting out multiple blockbuster films, including several entries in the Mission Impossible franchise and Top Gun: Maverick. Notably, Skydance has worked with Paramount on those films and others.
The Times corroborated the reporting of Puck, which put out an article on the talks Thursday. In his piece, Puck’s Matt Belloni categorized the talks as being “super early.”
Nonetheless, a sale could have enormous implications for the industry. Redstone and her father, the late mogul Sumner Redstone, have controlled Paramount and CBS for decades.
Notably, Skydance is backed by the private equity firm Redbird Capital Partners — which is also bankrolling ex-CNN chief Jeff Zucker’s bid to takeover the British newspapers The Telegraph and The Spectator.
