MSNBC host Ana Cabrera on Thursday spoke with two guests on the subject of, as the MSNBC chyron put it, Hunter Biden’s defiance of a Republican subpoena this week, for which the House may now charge the First Son with contempt of Congress.

Cabrera spoke with MSNBC correspondent Ali Vitali and her two guests about Hunter Biden’s shock presser outside of the Capitol during which he defied the subpoena to sit for a deposition and instead claimed he would prefer a public hearing.

Cabrera’s panel guests were Hannah Muldavin, a former spokesperson for the January 6 committee, and Maura Gillespie, whom MSNBC identified as a former adviser to Speaker John Boehner but who more recently and pertinently was a deputy chief of staff for Adam Kinzinger, the ex-Republican who was on that same committee.

Gillespie had harsh words for Hunter Biden, saying that he “more or less gave an opening statement and then ran back to his car,” and she pointed out that the January 6 Committee held “countless depositions that were behind closed doors.”

Cabrera dismissed all the commentary by saying “there’s a lot of evidence against Hunter Biden, who is not eligible for impeachment” as the group all laughed together.

After some more discussion about how definitely there’s no wrongdoing by President Joe Biden and the investigations are orchestrated by Donald Trump, with Muldavin praising how cooperative and “forthcoming” the Biden administration has been, Cabrera focused on the investigation into Hunter Biden’s activities.

Cabrera asked Muldavin whether defying the subpoena and taking an “aggressive approach” going forward “against this Republican leadership on the Hill.”

Muldavin first asked but what about when Jim Jordan didn’t show up for the January 6 committee under subpoena before saying that she doesn’t even know what Republicans are investigating.

“This investigation is not a real investigation, right? I was a part of one,” said Muldavin. “The January 6 Committee had something that we were looking into, the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol. What are they looking into here? I’m not quite sure.”

The Oversight Committee has, however, repeatedly said they are investigating the business dealings of the Biden family, an explanation that has had enormous press for months. On the Committee website it says they are looking into “the Biden family’s domestic and international business dealings to determine whether these activities compromise U.S. national security and President Biden’s ability to lead with impartiality.”

“We are committed to following the Biden family and associates’ money trail—consisting of many complex, international transactions worth millions of dollars—and providing answers to the American people,” the committee investigators say of what they are looking into. “The American people deserve to know whether the President’s connections to his family’s business deals occurred at the expense of American interests and whether they represent a national security threat.”

On the MSNBC panel, tbough, no one answered Muldavin’s question about what the committee is “looking into.”

CABRERA: Hunter is now taking a more aggressive approach because he believes it will help him and his father, according to people familiar with his team’s thinking. Is this the approach to take against this Republican leadership on the Hill.

MULDAVIN: Well, the Republican leadership, which, Ana, includes Jim Jordan, was a part of the January 6h plot to overturn the election, as you know. The January 6 Committee subpoenaed Jim Jordan, who then didn’t show up to to talk to us. So, I find it very rich for anybody like Jim Jordan, for example, to be talking about any sort of justice or coming and talking to a committee or holding anyone in contempt.

I think when you look at the people leading this investigation, it’s clear that they’re not doing it in a way that would be forthcoming, right? What we know so far is that Jim Jordan, James Comer, the chair of the Oversight Committee, have been interviewing people behind closed doors and then misrepresenting or cherry-picking facts. This investigation is not a real investigation, right? I was a part of one. The January 6 Committee had something that we were looking into, the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol. What are they looking into here? I’m not quite sure.
