Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) suggested that Fox News’ Trey Gowdy, himself a former Republican congressman from the Palmetto State, was transgender in a tweet just after the clock struck midnight on Friday.

Mace’s outburst followed an appearance by Gowdy on his home network in which he mused that the chaos surrounding the ongoing government shutdown fight is not “Mike Johnson’s fault” because “he’s got a dysfunctional family.”

“Mike Johnson is not dysfunctional, but several of his family members happen to be,” said Gowdy, referring to the GOP conference in the House.

“Thirty-something people— Nancy Mace would not be in the House if it weren’t for Donald Trump, and she can’t vote the way that he asked her to today? I hope he’s got as long a memory for House members as he does Senators that even threaten to not support one of his nominees.” he continued, referring to a bill Mace voted against on Thursday evening. “That’s what I hope. His memory is good.”

Mace fired back on X, first by declaring that she had “a message for Trey Gowdy.”

“You let Hillary Clinton off the hook for Benghazi. Sit your ass back down,” she said.

Then in a follow-up post, Mace posted an old picture of Gowdy and asked “Which bathroom do we think Trey Gowdy uses?”

GOP consultant Wesley Donehue responded to the dust-up by noting revealing that he had “fired Nancy Mace as client a few months back because I’m a political consultant and not a babysitter, a sex therapist or a doctor who can prescribe fixes for chemical imbalances.”

“I don’t have time for her constant egotistical bullshit and drama in my life,” he added.

Mace’s ex-communications director, Natalie Johnson, piled on by posting a clip of Mace calling herself a “huge fangirl” of Gowdy on air.
