Trump’s ‘Autocracy’ Is Being Rejected By Americans After Kimmel ‘Debacle,’ MSNBC’s Molly Jong-Fast Claims

By News Here - 15:07

MSNBC Political Analyst Molly Jong-Fast said Jimmy Kimmel’s brief suspension and return to ABC showed Americans are not ready to sit back and accept President Donald Trump’s “autocracy.”

Jong-Fast shared her thoughts on the matter while appearing on Alex Witts Reports on Sunday afternoon, after guest host Erielle Reshef asked her for a “vibes check” on “The Resistance” to President Trump.

“You’ve said recently that ‘The Resistance’ to Trump is working. How so, and what is your reason to be optimistic?” Reshed asked.

Jong-Fast chuckled initially over what her reason for being “optimistic” before saying the reaction to the Kimmel suspension gives her hope.

“The Kimmel debacle is a great example of how it can work… you had Brendan Carr on Benny Johnson’s podcast saying like, ‘We can do this the easy way or we can do this the hard way.’ They pull him off the air [and] the public outcry is such and it’s so huge, and people, you know, unsubscribed and drop their Disney+ subscriptions. And so he comes back and he’s put back on the air. And even the Sinclair affiliates put him back.”

She continued: “I do think it’s important to remember, like, all of this is quite scary. But the truth is, Donald Trump is a lame duck… his polling is underwater on almost everything. And the American people are not used to this kind of autocracy.”

If you somehow missed the drama, ABC and Disney suspended Kimmel on Sept. 17 for implying the man who killed Charlie Kirk was a supporter of President Donald Trump — contrary to reports. Here is the comment from his Sept. 15 show that led to his suspension:

The MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, and doing everything they can to score political points from it.

The comment led to swift pushback from Nexstar and Sinclair, which control a large chunk of ABC affiliates, and FCC Chair Brendan Carr on Sept. 17 said he felt Kimmel’s comment warranted a suspension.

Hours later, Kimmel was suspended — leading to some critics saying ABC and Disney caved to Trump’s administration; White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt denied that the president put “pressure” on ABC to suspend Kimmel.

Following all of that, ABC announced on Sept. 22 it was lifting Kimmel’s suspension and he returned to his program the following evening.

Kimmel did not apologize for his comments — leading Andrew Kolvet, the executive producer of The Charlie Kirk Show, to rip the host as an “unrepentant liar.”

The late-night host enjoyed a massive ratings jump for his first show back, but his ratings have since dropped to about what he averaged before his suspension.
