‘If You’re Worried About Unelected People Running The Country…’ CNN’s Jennings Takes Shot at Biden While Defending Musk and DOGE on Cuts

By News Here - 14:07

Conservative CNN senior political commentator Scott Jennings defended DOGE, Elon Musk, and President Donald Trump during a panel discussion, and bashed former President Joe Biden on his way out during Friday’s Laura Coates Live.

Jennings joined host Laura Coates and fellow panelists, Democratic strategist and former Clinton aide Keith Boykin and Tara Palmeri of Puck News to talk about spending and personnel cuts underway by the Trump administration that have roiled the media and Democrats, who claim that Republicans are also in turmoil over the long asked-for and anticipated cuts.

Toward the end of the conversation, Coates asked Jennings whether it’s fair to criticize the manner or extent of the slashing by Musk and his department, even while not disagreeing with the “universally lauded” goal of stopping “waste, fraud, and abuse,” and whether he himself sees any disconnect between the goal and its implementation.

“It’s universally lauded, but then when you try to do it, it’s universally opposed by every Democrat and every, you know, person who’s got a specific piece of the pie in Washington D.C.,” Jennings replied.

“I don’t see any disconnect here. The disconnect is all politicians say they want to do it, only Donald Trump and Elon Musk are trying to do it,” he added. “And that’s why everybody in Washington is up in arms.”

Coates sarcastically replied about an “A for effort” on the new and still being implemented cost-cutting, then turned to Boykin, who argued that every American should be “upset” by Musk leading the effort, saying, “Elon Musk was not on the ballot last year. In fact, they ran, they ran pretending that he was not was not even involved with this.”

As Coates attempted to wrap up the segment, Jennings talked over her to respond sarcastically to Boykin on the subject of unelected officials.

“Well, Joe Biden was on the ballot one time and he never, and he, and I don’t think he ever ran the country for one single day, Keith,” said Jennings as Coates interjected with an expression of frustration.

Jennings persisted, getting in one last line before the segment ended by adding, “So, you know, if you’re worried about unelected people running the country, let me introduce you to the Biden-Harris administration.”

COATES: Can you reconcile the idea of the premise of trying to stop waste, fraud, and abuse as a goal, which I think is universally lauded and the means by which you do so? Do you see a disconnect between the methodology and the ends trying to justify the means?

JENNINGS: It’s universally lauded, but then when you try to do it, it’s universally opposed by every Democrat and every, you know, person who’s got a specific piece of the pie in Washington D.C.

COATES: Republicans have taken issue with how it does, though.

JENNINGS: I mean, everybody, everybody, everybody says, oh, I want to do this. And then when it comes down to actually doing it, nobody actually wants to do it. So they show up and say, no, no, we’re going to actually do it, the American people want them to do it, and they are finding things and they need to do it.

And the other thing they need to do, honestly, is build a presentation and go to Capitol Hill and talk to the Congress about what they’re doing and get buy-in from the Congress. And also tell the American people that would be the the next evolution of this.

So no, I don’t see any disconnect here. The disconnect is all politicians say they want to do it, only Donald Trump and Elon Musk are trying to do it. And that’s why everybody in Washington is up in arms.

COATES: Oh, if only we gave A for efforts. Trying to do it. By the way, CNN did report on the DOGE actually using that water in the way that Keith has reported. But go ahead, what’s your point, Keith?

BOYKIN: No, but, Laura, these are not Democrats are saying these are Trump’s cabinet officials who are arguing with Elon Musk in the cabinet room. It’s not Keith Boykin in the Cabinet Room.

This is Marco Rubio and Sean Duffy and other officials in the Trump cabinet who were saying, we don’t like what you’re doing, you’re overdoing it. All right. We have good people who are working for the federal government who don’t need to be demonized, who need to be inspired to continue to do their work. And yes, if there are cuts to be made, we can make them, but we don’t need some unelected outsider coming and telling us how to run our department.

Every American should be upset by this. Elon Musk was not on the ballot last year. In fact, they ran, they ran pretending that he was not was not even involved with this.

COATES: It was a pleasure to hear this conversation –.

JENNINGS: Well, Joe Biden was on the ballot one time and he never, and he, and I don’t and I don’t think he ever ran the country for one single day, Keith.

COATES: I knew that was coming, gah!

JENNINGS: So, you know, if you’re worried about unelected people running the country, let me let me introduce you to the Biden-Harris administration.
