President-elect Donald Trump said Saturday that the Republican Party should pay Vice President Kamala Harris’s reported campaign debts in a show of “UNITY” in a Saturday morning social media post.

Harris raised more than $1 billion during her 107 days as a presidential candidate but reportedly walked away from the 2024 race with significant debts.

Democratic National Committee official Lindy Li told Fox & Friends Weekend Saturday morning that Harris’s ill-fated campaign was a “$1 billion disaster.”

“They’re $20 million or $18 million in debt. It’s incredible, and I raised millions of that. I have friends that I have to be accountable to and explain what happened because I told them it was a margin-of-error race,” Li said.

On his Truth Social account, Trump said the GOP should use surplus funds to help.

“I am very surprised that the Democrats, who fought a hard and valiant fight in the 2020 Presidential Election, raising a record amount of money, didn’t have lots of $’s left over,” Trump wrote. “Now they are being squeezed by vendors and others. Whatever we can do to help them during this difficult period, I would strongly recommend we, as a Party and for the sake of desperately needed UNITY, do.”

“We have a lot of money left over in that our biggest asset in the campaign was ‘Earned Media,’ and that doesn’t cost very much,” Trump said.

Li also told Fox News Saturday that donors were “misled” about Harris’s chance of defeating Trump.

After she said Harris campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon “promised all of us that Harris would win,” Li complained donors continued to write checks.

“She even put videos out saying Harris would win,” Li said. “I believed her, my donors believed her, and so they wrote massive checks. I just feel like a lot of us were misled.”

Li said the Harris campaign was confident on election night that the vice president would win Iowa.
