Fox News host Gillian Turner battled with veteran Democratic Party strategist Philippe Reines about the party’s embrace of former GOP congresswoman Liz Cheney on Saturday afternoon.

Reines accused former President Donald Trump of saying Cheney should be “shot with eight rifles” in a reference to the Republican nominee’s controversial Thursday statement calling her a “war hawk.” Trump said the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney should fight in battle if she wants to send American troops overseas. Trump told Tucker Carlson:

Let’s put her with a rifle standing there with nine barrels shooting at her, ok? Let’s see how she feels about it, you know, when the guns are trained on her face. You know, they’re all war hawks when they’re sitting in Washington in a nice building saying, “Oh, gee, let’s send 10,000 troops right into the mouth of the enemy.”

Reins joined Fox News Lives Saturday to discuss the final three days of the 2024 White House race with Turner when he referenced the comment. When Turner steered the conversation toward a series of recent gaffes committed by President Joe Biden, Reines misquoted Trump, drawing a response from Turner.

“Let’s fast forward to the other night. He said that Liz Cheney should be shot with eight rifles,” Reines said.

Turner replied, “No, he didn’t exactly say that because I understand this argument you guys are making. Reines fired back:

Come on. This morning, I don’t even know how to describe on family-friendly TV what he did. Now, the vice president’s closing argument is simple. She wants to fight for all of America. She wants to keep us going and she wants a fix, including the border. The border numbers have gotten better. And look, I’ll concede the border is a mess. The border is a problem that has gone on for too long. The border has been a problem that they inherited from Donald Trump and Donald Trump inherited it from Barack Obama, et cetera and so forth. It is a difficult problem that needs to be worked on much harder.

Turner responded to Reines by asking him, “Why are you guys clinging so feverishly right now to Liz Cheney’s endorsement? Obviously, the daughter of a man you guys call a war criminal, served a couple of terms in Congress. Why do you guys care so much?”

Reines argued Cheney is among hundreds of prominent Republicans who are not supporting Trump’s third White House bid, which makes her relevant.
