ESPN’s Paul Finebaum Declares Urban Meyer’s Coaching Career is Finished: ‘This Man is DEAD Professionally’

By News Here - 11:07

Urban Meyer was fired by the Jacksonville Jaguars late Wednesday night and according to ESPN’s college football expert Paul Finebaum, the legendary coach’s career on the sideline is finished.

Meyer’s NFL stay was shockingly brief, failing to make it through one season with the Jacksonville Jaguars after his tenure was marred by multiple scandals. The final straw came after former Jaguars placekicker Josh Lambo claimed he was kicked by Meyer during training camp.

Finebaum joined ESPN Radio’s Keyshawn, JWill and Max Thursday morning, and the SEC expert was asked if Meyer will return to college football.

“Not a chance, and anyone who wants to write a speculative piece today about ‘where could Urban end up?’ The answer is nowhere,” Finebaum emphatically told Max Kellerman. “This man is DEAD professionally and he did it to himself.”

Jacksonville’s NFL team hired Meyer, knowing he was a Florida legend for his coaching tenure in Gainesville just 60 miles away and they hoped the 57-year-old could step in and change the Jaguars, culture. You can argue Meyer did that, but instead of improving the Jaguars’ culture, he managed to make it more toxic.

“I don’t know how Shad Khan became a billionaire not being able to listen to commonsense,” Finebaum said about the decision from Jacksonville’s owner to hire Meyer. “ He could have called any of us…and told him exactly what would happened.”

The disgraced head coach is just 57-years-old, but Finebaum doesn’t think time will heal all wounds, believing a return to the college football sideline for Meyer won’t be possible.

“If you’re the Athletic Director (of a major school) how do you walk down the hallway to your president and say ‘I have a great idea, I think we ought to hire Urban Meyer’ and the man or woman goes ‘is that the guy that was at the bar with the woman? Is that the guy who allegedly kicked a player? Is that the guy who treats people like dirt?’ Forget it,” Finebaum ranted.

In the immediate future, Meyer could return to the media, where he had a successful run as a college football analyst with Fox Sports before entering the NFL.
