Kevin Spacey Flick Billionaire Boys Club Earns Pitiful $126 on Opening Day
Things are not looking good for Kevin Spacey‘s new movie Billionaire Boys Club. On its first day, the flick reportedly raked in only $126.
The dismal showing was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter which noted sales were so bad that they didn’t even average two tickets per venue.
Even considering the movie first launched on VOD and was only in ten theatres across the country, that is pretty sad.
THR reports:
The ensemble crime-drama Billionaire Boys Club quietly opened Friday in 10 theaters scattered in select states across the U.S. The indie film earned an abysmal $126 for the day following its release on premium VOD last month, according to those with access to theater grosses.
Put another way, that’s a per location average of $12.60, which doesn’t even equal two tickets if going by the current average ticket price of $9.27. For the full weekend, Billionaire Boys Club could have trouble hitting $1,000, by far the worst showing of a film starring Spacey. Titles that debut first on VOD aren’t generally big draws at the box office, but Billionaire Boys Club is faring particularly poorly.
Billionaire Boys Club has also suffered from bad reviews including an equally sad 13% rating on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer.
In wake of the sexual assault allegations facing Kevin Spacey, the fate of the film was, for a while, up in the air.
However, Vertical Entertainment decided to go ahead with the release anyhow, writing in a statement: “We hope these distressing allegations pertaining to one person’s behavior — that were not publicly known when the film was made almost two-and-a-half years ago and from someone who has a small, supporting role in Billionaire Boys Club — does not tarnish the release of the film.”
Ansel Elgort, Taron Egerton, Emma Roberts, Jeremy Irvine, Cary Elwes, Judd Nelson and Billie Lourd are also in the film.
