On Saturday, President Donald Trump released a video message claiming “you have nothing to lose” by meeting with foreign leaders. He also touted his accomplishments during his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Trump started by saying “many people” have asked him why he meets with so many foreign leaders and why he wastes his time.

“The fact is, it is very important,” Trump continued on. “I’ve said for a long time, if you’re president, you should meet with foreign leaders. You have nothing to lose and you have a lot to gain.”

The president then touted all the good that has come from his meetings with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Putin, including the return of the remains of U.S. soldiers from North Korea.

Turning to his meeting with the Russian leader he further said, “We had a tremendous meeting with President Putin, a lot of things were accomplished.”

Trump then concluded: “Nothing bad can happen, it’s only going to be positive, especially if your president knows what he’s doing.”

The White House has been light on specifics about the meetings with Kim and especially Trump’s one-on-one with Putin, making it unclear what accomplishments Trump is referring to in his video address.

Defense Secretary James Mattis, though, has admitted that the Trump-Putin meeting yielded no policy changes and was limited to talk.
