Giant Bikini-Clad Balloon of London Mayor Sadiq Khan to Fly Over City in Response to Trump Baby Balloon
London Mayor Sadiq Khan is getting the Trump treatment this Saturday when a giant balloon depicting him cartoonishly wearing a yellow bikini will fly over the city, thanks to a Crowdfunder campaign started by Londoner Yanny Gruere.
There was a lot of media attention last month when a giant balloon depicting Donald Trump as a baby in a diaper flew over London with the Khan’s approval. In response, right wing group Make London Safe Again will be flying a balloon lampooning the Mayor, and on Thursday they got the final go-ahead from the city for the event, scheduled this Saturday.
At the time the Crowdfunder began the campaign, Gruere wrote:
In light of the Donald Trump ‘Baby Trump’ ballon(sic) being allowed to fly over London during his visit to the U.K., let’s get a ‘baby Khan’ one and see if FREE SPEECH applies to all and whether or not Mr Khan and the London assembly will also approve this.
On Thursday, London’s Sun newspaper reported that “Thousands of donors raised £58,182 for the 20ft balloon – nearly twice the £34,923 donated for the Trump version last month.”
The balloon is set to go on the first of September, as Gruere tweeted last week, with a link to an event hosted by the group Make London Safe Again on Facebook.

Fox News reported on Thursday that the bikini design is a reference to another Khan controversy regarding political correctness in advertising.
The balloon’s design poked fun at Khan’s decision to ban an advertisement showing a woman wearing a yellow bikini with the message reading, “Are you beach body ready?”
The advertisement appeared on transportation systems, but Khan banned the ad in 2016 because it promoted “unhealthy or unrealistic body images,” according to the BBC.
