Howard Kurtz: It’s ‘Reprehensible’ For Media To Blame Trump For Annapolis Shooting, ‘Blood Libel’
Fox News media analyst Howard Kurtz slammed those in the media who attempted to tie President Donald Trump to the shooting that took place at the Capital Gazette in Annapolis this week.
Laura Ingraham began the segment by comparing the blame game to the 2011 assassination attempt on Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, which the New York Times suggested Sarah Palin incited such violence.
The Federalist’s Mollie Hemmingway called it “alarming” that the media continued to push the “false narrative” that Trump’s animus towards the press led to the shooting despite it being revealed that the shooter had a vendetta against the local paper.
However, Kurtz held nothing back.
“This is reprehensible. It’s guilt by association and it’s being spread by journalists who want to blame Donald Trump for everything, including rain storms and rush hour traffic,” Kurtz told Ingraham. “Now, I don’t agree that the president should be calling the press ‘the enemy of the people.’ But Laura, it is an absurd stretch to go from that to this ‘blood on his hands’ claim, which is a blood libel.”
Kurtz went on to criticize both the right and the left for trying to “score partisan points” after mass shootings and how they’re also being “weaponized” against Trump.
“Here’s what’s really sad, Laura. Five people who came to work everyday in Annapolis to try to serve their community, taking risks as journalists because you write things that make people angry, they’re dead. And that’s being overshadowed by this all of this overheated political rhetoric. And the attempt to tie President Trump, whether you like his rhetoric or not, to this bloodshed is really sad.”
