Ted Cruz Calls On IL Voters to Reject Nazi Candidate: Write In Someone or ‘Vote for the Democrat’
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) sent out a tweet encouraging people to vote against a controversial Illinois candidate running on the GOP ticket and instead, write in someone or vote for a Democrat.
“This is horrific,” Cruz wrote. “An avowed Nazi running for Congress. To the good people of Illinois, you have two reasonable choices: write in another candidate, or vote for the Democrat. This bigoted fool should receive ZERO votes.”

Cruz was referring to Arthur Jones, an Illinois Holocaust denier who ran and won the Republican primary in the heavily Democratic Third Congressional District. Jones ran unopposed.
The Illinois Republicans were not impressed.
“Arthur Jones is not a real Republican — he is a Nazi whose disgusting, bigoted views have no place in our nation’s discourse,” Tim Schneider, the Illinois Republican Party chairman, told The New York Times.
In the Politico interview shared by Cruz, Jones also mocked the “two-party, Jew-party, queer-party system,” and boasted about his GOP win, noting “I snookered them.”
He added: “I played by the rules, what can I say?”
The GOP is considering a write-in candidate to counter Jones, who is a longshot candidate.
Jones has also not taken all the steps to be a viable candidate, refusing to file a report with the Federal Election Commission
“I’m not filing any reports. I’m not going to give the Jews an opportunity to harass my supporters until after the election,” he told Politico. “Right now, I’m keeping all the names confidential.”
