Back in 2019, sports writer Rick Reilly wrote a book chronicling how President Donald Trump cheats at golf.

“He cheats like a mafia accountant,” Reilly wrote. “He cheats crazy. He cheats whether you’re watching or not. He cheats whether you like it or not.”

And on Sunday, a video made the rounds on social media purporting to show Trump (and his caddy) caught in the act.

The clip shows the caddy walking out ahead of the president, and then flipping a ball back into shorter rough — as opposed to some of the taller fescue just outside the area where they were walking. Trump is then seen walking towards that ball — appearing as though he’s going to play it.

Liberal clipping account PatriotTakes posted the footage in question:

There are no further details about the clip — such as, for instance, the hole number where the incident occurred. But Associated Press footage does appear to corroborate that the video was captured during Sunday’s round — as Trump and the caddy appear in the same clothes.

If a player loses their ball, the rules of golf dictate that a player take a stroke-and-distance penalty — meaning they must hit again from the same spot as the previous spot. Further, a serious player would always drop a ball themselves, rather than leave it to a caddy. So this appears to be a big no-no all around.

Now, this infraction is hardly the end of the world — unless there was some kind of stake involved in the match with his playing companions. Still, the clip is fueling speculation that Trump’s golf prowess isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Here’s a sampling of the reaction — particularly among left-wing influencers:
