MSNBC opinion hosts went hard after President Donald Trump and his special advisor Elon Musk by amplifying a narrative that they serve as co-presidents.

The consistent commentary followed a bizarre joint press event in the Oval Office that saw Musk with his four-year-old son holding court with assembled White House press corps members while Trump sat quietly behind the Resolute Desk. This follows a recent TIME cover featuring a photo illustration portraying Musk as the effective commander-in-chief.

The notion that Musk is effectively a “co-president” to Trump was a comment repeated by nearly every MSNBC host over the past hour.

“Elon Musk and his co-president, Donald Trump, have spent the first three weeks of their presidency attempting a full assault on the separation of powers detailed by the Constitution,” Chris Hayes said as he opened his Tuesday night show. 

This idea was echoed by Nicolle Wallace, Joy Reid, and Lawrence O’Donnell, among many other guests and contributors.
