Singer Sheryl Crow sold her Tesla and donated the proceeds to NPR as a way to stick it to “President” Elon Musk” and the Trump administration, sharing a farewell video on social media.

In an Instagram post aimed at Musk, President Donald Trump, and the Department of Government Efficiency’s slashing of federal jobs and agencies, Crow said she had sold her electric vehicle in protest.

“My parents always said… you are who you hang out with,” the 63-year-old wrote. “There comes a time when you have to decide who you are willing to align with. So long Tesla.”

In a short clip, Crow looked on as a wrecker loaded up her car. To ramp up the drama, she included a sample of Andrea Bocelli’s operatic ballad Con te partirò – which means “time to say goodbye” when translated into English.

Crow added, “Money donated to @npr, which is under threat by President Musk, in hopes that the truth will continue to find its way to those willing to know the truth.”

She tagged Trump and Musk, included the tag #ProtectTheConstitution, and posted the US Capitol switchboard phone number.

The post generated some support but also attracted a significant share of mockery.

One top comment on the post read, “So you support wasteful government spending, money that could’ve gone to support our veterans. Got it.”

Another commenter wrote, “You loved Elon when he donated to Dems. Now that he’s uncovering fraud and waste on a grand scale that is mind-boggling, you’re all full of virtue signaling. Oh, we’re so impressed.”

One very disappointed Crow fan commented, “How can people be against Trump and Musk? If you are against them, than you are against freedom of speech, government efficiency, homeland security and America first politics. It is sad that it seems that you are against all these dear Sheryl Crow.”

While the singer was met with immense backlash, she did find some support. One fan crowned her, “Sheryl Queen.”
