‘Thank You Fox News’: Gavin Newsom Praises Fox For Report On ‘Courageous’ CA National Guard Wildfire Response

By News Here - 11:08

Governor Gavin Newsom (D-CA) praised Fox News for an “in-depth and accurate” report on the California National Guard’s participation in the wildfire response.

The wildfires devastating the Los Angeles area have dominated the news this week, and have turned into a political feud as well. President-elect Donald Trump has been attacking Governor Newsom and spreading misinformation about the fires, while Democratic officials have been criticized over preparedness and the response to fires that were spurred on by high Santa Ana winds.

But Gov. Newsom singled out a bright spot in the coverage of the disaster over the weekend, literally thanking Fox News on social media.

“Thank you @FoxNews for the in-depth and accurate reporting of our courageous CA National Guard that has been deployed to SoCal,” Newsom wrote on X/Twitter along with a shorter version of a news package from Saturday’s edition of Fox News Channel’s Fox News Live.

Christina Coleman, embedded with the Guard, impressed Newsom with her report:

CHRISTINA COLEMAN: There are guardsmen all around this area. They are working hard to support local law enforcement as they try to protect these areas and keep people away from all of this damage.

I mean, just take a look at this. This is one of the many houses that have just been devastated, destroyed here in this neighborhood. There are so many of them. It is just heartbreaking when you drive around here and you see all of these burnt-out vehicles and all of these homes, it’s hard to imagine that just days ago there were so many families, there was so much life here.

And take a look at this video from last night. You know, the National Guard, they’ve got Humvees positioned at major intersections. They’re working nonstop around the clock, rotating in soldiers at these locations to stop people from going into the houses and businesses that have been destroyed.

They want to prevent people from looting and keep folks away from downed power lines and gas leaks, very dangerous situations. And they say they know that a lot of people are coming through here. They want badly to get back into this area. They want to check on their homes, but they are urging people to please give them patience.

SGT. CALEB ROMERO: Here from this community to all of our soldiers from the California Army National Guard. And we’re right here close to home. So we really do feel for these people. Of course.

CHRISTINA COLEMAN: The guardsmen were deployed here Wednesday. Some of them have been sleeping nearby at a California Highway Patrol communication center so they can be close to areas where they are desperately needed as they collaborate with the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department, California Highway Patrol and LAPD to protect lives and property.

So far, the deadly Eaton Fire has claimed the lives of at least six people and burned more than 14,000 acres and destroyed or damaged more than 7000 structures, making it the second most destructive wildfire in California’s history.

Combined, all of these devastating fires around L.A. County have just destroyed so much, including the homes of two California National Guardsmen. And get this, they still offered to help out.
