MSNBC contributor Maria Teresa Kumar asked “what didn’t we do?” as she admitted “every single poll” missed the “tide” towards former President Donald Trump in the election.

Teresa Kumar, also the CEO of Voto Latino, said on MSNBC on Wednesday that Democrats’ message did not land with working class Americans with Trump winning out with a “populist” message based on the economy. Kumar blasted Trump for his views on climate change and his promise to put Robert F. Kennedy Jr. somewhere in his administration to deal with “health.”

Kumar said:

When Trump was elected the first time in 2016, we all were kind of on pins and needles, saying, he will not do what he said he was going to do, and then he went ahead and did exactly what he was going to do. Coming in today, I have to say, it was more of a recognition that we have to have better conversations with the country on what this means because he implications are not just for the most marginalized but abroad is very well. There’s any realignment happening that I don’t know if folks will completely comprehend. We can look at how he doesn’t believe in climate change. Those are really big issues that not only will impact us here in the United States but globally. He doesn’t believe in vaccines if he puts Kennedy Jr. in there.

She added Kennedy could be “decimating” to vaccination levels around the world. Kennedy told NBC News’ Vaughn Hillyard in an earlier interview on Wednesday that he would not plan on taking away any vaccines off the market in whatever role he ends up serving in.

Kumar admitted Trump’s message broke through to working class people of different races and she asked how polls could not have seen the positive shifts towards Trump in Latino voters and others:

What didn’t we do? What did we miss? Every single poll missed this tide of the American public. I think that when we talk about where we are, there is a new realignment of a coalition of folks not getting by. You have massive amounts of Americans that are living paycheck to paycheck, and they are not getting the economic relief to feel like they will be better off tomorrow than their parents. You Look at the Latino community, 70% of that community work in construction, are farm workers, or hospitality. Those aren’t union jobs. They are trying to say, you are telling me I need to care about X, but what I need to figure out is, how do I pay rent? And Trump, whether you like him or not, he had that populist message, while the Democrats have actual material policies for them, that populist message didn’t break through.

OpenAI has been pushing out new features for ChatGPT at a steady clip, and one of the latest updates to arrive is a small but useful one: the ability to search back through the conversations you've had with the AI chatbot.

If you want to get back to a chat you were having about party ideas for kids, or you want to pick up on a debate about the ethics of an AI, or you want to continue using ChatGPT to liven up your emails to your boss—whatever it is you need to get back to, it's now easier to do with the search tool.

The feature is available now, on the web and on mobile, to ChatGPT Plus users paying $20 a month. OpenAI says the roll out to free users will take a few weeks, so if you're not a paying subscriber, you might not see it yet.

How to search through your ChatGPT conversations

Once the search feature goes live in your ChatGPT account, you can access it either on the web or in the mobile apps for Android and iOS—though at this stage it's not particularly advanced in what it can do. All of your conversations with the bot get synced between the web and mobile, if you're signed in with the same account.

On the web, click the magnifying glass icon up in the top left corner (if you can't see it, click the icon that's two joined rectangles to show the side panel). A new dialog box pops up, and you can type in the words you're looking for: As you type, matches for both the titles of chats and the text within them start appearing.

You'll see the dates next to the chats in the results, and to visit a previous chat, you can just click on it. You're also able to create a New chat from the search dialog box, as long as the search box is clear. For now, there are no advanced options—for combining search terms together, for example, or searching for one word while excluding another.

Over on the mobile app, the search box is up in the top right corner of the interface, but you need to tap the sidebar button (two horizontal lines, top left) in order to see it. The same search functionality applies here, and you'll see matching results as you type out your search terms—you can also just tap ChatGPT to start a new chat.

Managing your ChatGPT conversation history

Being able to search through your ChatGPT conversations might make you more inclined to keep them around for future reference, but you can delete a chat at any point on the web: Click the three dots next to the chat in the left-hand side panel, then choose Delete. To wipe everything, click your account picture (top right), then Settings, General, and Delete All.

There's also ChatGPT's memory, which is managed separately to your conversation history: Whether or not you keep or delete your chats, the bot can remember details about you, such as your profession or whereabouts you're from, so its answers are more personalized. For example, if you ask for film recommendations, the AI would remember what you've already seen and liked.

To manage this on the web, click your account picture (top right), then Settings and Personalization. You can enable or disable the memory feature using the toggle switch, and click Manage to see individual memories ChatGPT has retained, and delete them individually if needed. To delete everything ChatGPT has ever remembered about you, click Clear ChatGPT's memory from the Personalization screen.

Should you want to keep your chats around so you can search them, but not have OpenAI use the conversations to further refine its AI models, this is another separate setting: Click your profile picture (top right) and Settings, then select Data controls and turn off the Improve the model for everyone toggle switch.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu fired Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on Tuesday ahead of an expected attack from Iran. Axios reporter Barak Ravid broke the news and reported on Gallant’s replacement, ” Netanyahu appoints foreign minister Israel Katz as minister of defense and Gideon Saar as foreign minister.”

Iran has threatened “a crushing response” in recent days to Israel’s military operations in Lebanon and Gaza. “The enemies, whether the Zionist regime or the United States of America, will definitely receive a crushing response to what they are doing to Iran and the Iranian nation and to the resistance front,” Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said in a video released by Iranian state media over the weekend.

CNN reported late last week that an Iranian attack was believed to be coming within days. “A high-ranking Iranian source told CNN that Iran is planning a “definitive and painful” response that will likely come before the election,” reported Axios last week. Israeli officials have been preparing to defend against what would be a third attack from Iranian territory so far this year.

Ravid offered some commentary on what he sees as being behind Netanyahu’s surprise decision to remove Gallant, who has been critical of Netanyahu in the past and called his  “absolute victory” promise in the war in Gaza “gibberish.” “Why it matters: Netanyahu’s move in the middle of a multi-front war is being driven mostly by domestic political consideration and the need to pass laws that benefits ultra-orthodox students who don’t serve in the military. Gallant opposes the laws, while the ultra-orthodox parties in the coalition threaten to topple the government if the laws doesn’t pass in the coming days,” wrote Ravid.

“Unfortunately, although in the first months of the war there was trust and there was very fruitful work, during the last months this trust cracked between me and the Defense Minister,” said Netanyahu in a video statement explaining his decision to remove Gallant.

I didn’t realize just how good I am at the process of quickly and thoroughly clearing out a hotel room until I vacationed with someone who isn’t. (This person shall remain nameless, but full disclosure: I happen to be married to him.)

He does things like fill a suitcase and bring it out to the car, while its intended contents languish on a table. Or he won’t notice that one of our kids’ toys is with the takeout containers we need to trash.

We can do better than this! And I will show you how. Ideally, the magic begins long before you need to begin packing up—but you can start any time. 

When you arrive: Designate “your” spaces

I am not going to tell you to avoid using drawers. You should absolutely use the drawers, if your hotel has them. Specifically, you should take your packing cubes out of your suitcase. leave them full of clothes, and put each cube directly into a drawer.

The key is that you must claim the spaces you’ll use. Consider certain areas of the hotel room “your” spaces, in that they will be home to your items. (That drawer you just plopped your packing cube into? Yours.) Then designate other areas as being for items that are disposable or that belong to the hotel. 

Here are some examples of how you might do this during a trip. You can tailor them to your needs.

• The nightstand is mine. The TV stand is the hotel’s. So I keep my phone and charging cables on the nightstand, and move all the little hotel items (informational cards, etc) to the TV stand. I’ll also put the TV remote on the TV stand when I don’t need it within reach.

• The area under the table, where the garbage bin is, belongs to the hotel. I’ll put garbage and recycling there. I will not kick off my shoes and leave them under the table. 

• “My” bathroom space is the counter. The shower is not one of my spaces. So after I shower, I’ll remove my razor and my personal shampoo bottle and put them on the counter. (The hotel soap can stay.)

• The bed belongs to the hotel. After I wake up, I grab any items I had in bed with me (a sweatshirt I took off during the night, a book I was reading when I passed out) and move them to one of my spaces. 

I like to stick to this division of spaces during any short stay (up to three days), or during the latter few days of a long stay. Obviously if you have multiple people staying in the same room, you can each have your own space. For example, you take the table and your roommate takes the desk. You take the top drawer and they take the second drawer. You take the left side of the bathroom counter and they take the right side. 

Get in the habit of checking the “hotel’s” spaces regularly and moving things out of them and into the proper space. This way, nothing will be left behind under the blankets, because you've been checking the bed every morning. This is also good practice for when you’re finally packing up—but more about that in a minute.

Don't unpack things you don't actually need to unpack

Let's take a moment to appreciate things that stay sort of "packed" even when they are unpacked. For example, propping a suitcase on a luggage rack lets you use the suitcase as a sort of impromptu dresser. And I love a good hanging toiletry bag—I have this one from Travelon. I'll use my deodorant, then pop it right back into its little pocket. My toothbrush is the only thing that stays out all day (airing out a toothbrush is key to keeping germs from festering, by the way—that's more important than covering it.)

On your second-to-last day: Shrink those spaces

As your departure time draws nearer, start collecting your things. You don’t have to pack them into bags yet, but check all of the “hotel” spaces and see if you can bring anything over into one of “your” spaces. 

It’s also time to start converting some of your spaces back to hotel spaces. Let’s say you hung some clothes in the closet. Well, if it’s your last night and you’re done wearing those clothes, take them off the hangers and put them in your suitcase, or with your other clothes in the drawer.

This is also a good time to separate things that belong to different people. If some of your stuff is on your roommate’s side of the bathroom sink, or vice versa, rearrange them appropriately. 

Check “hotel” spaces as you pack

As you and your traveling companions begin to pack up, continue this process of removing things from hotel spaces. You’ll get into a habit of looking around: “Nothing on the desk, nothing in the closet, nothing on the floor over here, how about the drawers? Nope, nothing in the drawers. OK, let’s see what I can pack from the bathroom.” 

On a solo trip where you have one or two bags, this is a fast and easy process. It’s more complicated if you have more people and more luggage. In that case, start clustering things according to the bag they’ll be packed in, or however it is you organize for the road. All the clothing together. All the toys together. All the food together. 

The idea is that you should be able to glance at a space and know whether you’re done packing it. If it’s empty, great, you’re done with that space. But if you have, say, some groceries in a half-unpacked shopping bag, that needs to be separated into garbage (put in the garbage) and things you still want (put them with the food if they are food, and so on). 

Designate staging areas

Most hotel rooms will have an entryway with room for a few suitcases and pairs of shoes. (If yours doesn’t, designate a suitable space.) You may be tempted to also put garbage near the entryway, but make sure it’s completely, visually separate. 

When a bag is packed, don’t take it out to the car just yet. Put the bag in your staging area. This way, if you find an item that needs to go in the green suitcase, you don’t need to go out to the car for it, or pack it in a different bag—the green suitcase is still right here. 

It goes without saying that you’ll continue your scan of hotel spaces. The drawers are empty by this point, the desk is clear, there are only a few things left on the table, and you have obsessively checked the shower, the hooks behind the door, and the space under the bed roughly 1,000 times. 

You may also reclaim some “hotel” spaces as staging areas. Judiciously, of course. A good strategy is to check the bed for any of your things, remake the bed (it doesn’t have to be pretty), and then use the bed for the things you will grab on your way out of the room. Your jacket, for example. Or your wallet. It’s a lot harder to forget your jacket when it’s right smack in the middle of the bed, versus draped over a chair at the back of the room. 

Review your packing list

To make sure you don’t forget any essentials, refer to the same packing list you used when you left home. Pajamas, toothbrush, passport? Check. 

Make sure to add two things to your mental packing list: (1) Souvenirs you purchased (or really anything you acquired) during the trip; and (2) Food in the fridge. The fridge is one of the spaces that is hardest to clear because food needs to stay in there until the last minute, but it’s also out of sight. If you have a cooler, leave it open in front of the fridge as a reminder. 

Have everyone do one last check

Of course you’re going to do one last check of the room before you close the door for the last time. But if you’re in a family group, especially with kids, make sure everybody does their own walkthrough—no waiting in the car while Dad grabs the “last few things.” Teach kids how to check the “behinds and unders,” as I tell them (it sounds dirty now that I have typed it out—I mean behind the bed, under the table, that sort of thing).

This works well because each person will naturally pay a bit more attention to the places they personally spent time. My kid is a lot more likely to find that doll under the bed than I am. 

Tucker Carlson made an absurd claim that electronic voting machines serve no purpose other than to assist Democrats in stealing elections Monday during an interview with Steve Bannon.

Carlson joined Bannon’s WarRoom podcast a day before the 2024 election to discuss a number of topics, including demonic forces, human sacrifice, and Tuesday’s vote.

On the subject of electronic voting machines, the former Fox News host recalled being deposed by Dominion after the company sued Fox for airing false claims that its machines were used to rig the election against former President Donald Trump.

While addressing Bannon’s audience, Carlson called for the machines to be banned:

What I’m really struck by is how virtually every Trump voter I talk to and maybe even some on-the-fence voters, says basically the same thing. You know, it’s just a question of how much the Democratic Party cheats in this election, which is another way of saying the whole country seems to have accepted the reality that, you know, one of the two big political parties doesn’t believe in democracy, is willing to cheat and ignore the will of the population – of the citizenry. That’s really dark.

You know, you hate to think you live in a place where people just, you know, accept that is normal. It’s not normal. It’s criminal; it’s immoral. And we should do everything we can to fix it. Right. And the last thing I would say is, as someone who spent, you know, I don’t know, something like 15 hours in depositions imposed on me by voting machine companies. And I was never named in any suit by a voting machine company, but they went out of their way to harass me, I think funded by Reid Hoffman, stole my text messages, leaked them to The New York Times.

Carlson said he was still “bitter” about the 2020 election fallout before he ripped conservative media for being afraid to call for a ban on voting machines:

They don’t work. They’re not more efficient. They’re not better at counting and they don’t produce the result faster. The only reason to have electronic voting machines is if, you know, you want to subvert them. It’s insane that we have them and no one feels free to say that. So I just want to I want to – I think I’ve been proven right on this. And we have every reason to be suspicious of electronic voting machines, and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

Carlson was deposed by Dominion during its successful lawsuit against Fox News, which ended in a $787.5 million payout by Fox to Dominion over the lies it aired about the company. Fox fired Carlson soon after the settlement.

The discovery process of the lawsuit unearthed texts Carlson sent about the election – including several in which he admitted privately that it was not stolen.

In one sent to then-Trump attorney Sidney Powell, a chief purveyor of election lies, Carlson demanded she provide evidence to support her claims.

“You keep telling our viewers that millions of votes were changed by the software. I hope you will prove that very soon,” Carlson wrote to Powell. “You’ve convinced them that Trump will win. If you don’t have conclusive evidence of fraud at that scale, it’s a cruel and reckless thing to keep saying.”

Powell never provided evidence in support of her claims.

Welcome to The Cheater’s Guide to Thanksgiving. While there are plenty of tips out there for folks making scratch desserts and artisan loaves, the Cheater’s Guide focuses on the person who could use a helping hand—even from some unconventional sources. Some might call it “cheating” (like that’s a bad thing), but there’s nothing wrong with using modern technology and supermarket know-how to help you make a bangin’ traditional feast—with much less of the traditional work.

There’s no real need to make scratch bread for Thanksgiving dinner. You have way too much to do already, and unless you’re a seasoned bread-baker, making a loaf or rolls can be risky. Rise times are unpredictable, there’s limited flexibility, shaping skills don’t come overnight, and after all that, bread can still turn out badly after the bake. However, you can buy bread that comes in multiple stages of doneness—fully baked, partially baked, or ready-to-bake frozen dough—at the grocery store. Regardless of which level of packaged bread you choose, here are some easy ways to make them holiday ready.

Butter-up your fully baked rolls

There are a lot of decent-to-great quality rolls available in the market. I’m a huge fan of King’s Hawaiian rolls. Those little buns are way too tasty for anyone to resist. If you can’t find those, any small, soft buns or rolls, sometimes marketed as slider buns, will be great. Since these rolls are done, the only things that can improve them is warmth to soften any fats in the dough, and a slather of salty butter. 

Unpack your rolls and nestle them into a buttered casserole dish, one where the fit is pretty snug. If you only have huge casserole dishes, make a fake one out of foil. Melt a couple tablespoons of salted butter in the microwave or in a pot, and brush the buns with the butter. Thoroughly coat the rolls in butter so the tops are gleaming, and sprinkle with flaky salt. Pop these in a 350°F oven for about five to seven minutes. You’re just warming them up. Remove them from the oven and give them a few minutes to cool. Take the warmed rolls out of the pan and tear them into individual rolls if they aren’t already. Pile the rolls up in a bread basket loosely covered with a tea towel to serve.  

Crisp and brown par-baked bread

Par-baked, or partially baked, bread is how a lot of grocery stores receive their artisan loaves from their larger commissary bakeries. A partially baked loaf of bread is completely cooked, but it’s taken out of the oven maybe 90% finished. The bread is fully risen and even has beautiful open score marks, but the crust hasn’t really developed, so the loaf appears rather pale and feels soft. 

The point of making bread like this is so stores can receive nearly completed bread, freeze and thaw it as needed, and crisp it in the oven without over-browning or burning the crust. You can ask the bakery section of the store to sell you their par-baked bread, but a lot of the loaves in my local ShopRite are sold in this condition already. (There are actually a lot of things your local grocery store can help you with.) This is usually done with larger loaves, like sourdoughs, olive batards, or farmhouse boules, but occasionally you’ll see par-baked rolls too.

To finish off the cooking process at home, preheat your oven to 400°F. Put the dinner loaves on a baking sheet; there’s no need to line it with anything. Slide the tray of bread into the hot oven and let it crisp up for 10 to 20 minutes, depending on how dark you like your bread. Something I like to do is swipe a salty water solution over my bread to give it a flavorful salty crust. If you want to try this, just dissolve a teaspoon of salt in a quarter cup of hot water. Use a pastry brush to brush the water over the crust of the bread. Bake it like I mentioned above. The crust will crisp and the water will evaporate leaving behind a thin coating of salt. Slice the bread and serve it in a bread basket alongside soft salted butter. 

Proof and polish frozen dough

If you check the freezer section, or sometimes stand alone freezers in the aisle, you might see completely raw dough that’s already been beautifully braided or shaped into perky loaves. They are similar to how you might see pizza dough, but these breads are ready to be baked without further shaping. I always see pre-braided challah loaves in aluminum tins at my grocery store, and they normally come with directions on how to thaw, proof, and bake them.

This type of bread is lovely to bring home for a sit-down dinner like Thanksgiving because you get the added benefit of freshly baked bread aroma, which you miss out on with the other two levels of store-bought bread. 

Generally, you’ll just follow the directions on the bread's packaging. It should give you instructions on how to do the second proof and what signals to look for when the dough is ready to be baked. Usually the thawed dough will need at least 30 to 45 minutes at room temperature to proof. If it’s a soft bread, like challah or brioche, give the top of the loaf a swipe of egg wash just before baking. This egg wash will develop into a rich, shiny brown finish, and your loaf will look that much more lovely. Always allow freshly baked bread to cool completely before slicing with a serrated knife.

A Texas news anchor broke down in tears on the air Thursday as she informed her station’s viewers that her longtime colleague at the desk had died a day earlier.

Veteran KCEN-TV anchor Kris Radcliffe of Temple died on Wednesday at the age of 51, his co-anchor Lindsay Liepman announced on Thursday during an emotional broadcast.

“This is an incredibly sad day for our KCEN family,” Liepman said to open Thursday’s newscast. “My co-anchor, Kris Radcliffe, died unexpectedly and we received the news today.”

Liepman noted her late colleague anchored at the Texas station for two decades and fondly remembered working alongside him,

“Kris sat in the chair right beside me, and he was the best,” she said. “He was simply the best. Funny, genuine, and smart. I looked forward to working with Kris every single night. And I think you could tell at home we had fun here.”

Overcome by emotion, she continued:

Kris loved this community and never took his role for granted. If I had known yesterday was going to be our last newscast together, I would have ignored the cues to rap from our producers and just laughed a little longer at all of his jokes. He always has lots of jokes. I would have thanked him for all that he’s taught me and given to all of you, the viewers. But that is not how life works out.

What you don’t get to see on air is the time spent talking about our families. And our group chats. He loved talking about sports and politics. It was important for me to share what he meant to us here at KCEN right now, because I know he would have done the same for me. My thoughts and sincere prayers are with Kris’s wife, daughters, and especially his grandchildren who idolized their papa

Liepman offered condolences to the Radcliffe family and announced she would be leaving early and handing off the evening’s anchor duties to a colleague.

“I simply can’t get through the newscast tonight, and I hope you understand,” she said.

Donald Trump ramped up his rhetoric against the media at a rally in Pennsylvania on Sunday, saying he wouldn’t “mind” if someone shot “through the fake news.”

The former president called the media “so damn bad” to cheers from the crowd before talking about the bullet-proof glass he was forced to speak behind following two failed assassination attempts.

“I have this piece of glass here, but all we have really over here is the fake news, right?” Trump said to audience laughter.

“And, to get me, somebody would have to shoot through the fake news. And I don’t mind that so much, ’cause I don’t mind. I don’t mind that,” Trump said as the crowd roared.

Trump rambled on about the bullet-proof glass before discussing the method behind the “brilliant” weaves and bobs of his speeches that the media doesn’t have the skill to report on accurately:

I’m a very smart person! You know, they refuse to — you know, now they are saying, that was the most brilliant speech. They’re saying — it’s a weave, you go — and then you’re here, and then? What happens is, while you’re here, there’s a point having to do with that point, and you go “wing, wing” and you come here, then you do another weave, “nee, nee, nee,” and it’s a very complex, but then it gets very simple because it gets all comes brilliantly and beautifully together.

And they actually acknowledge this total genius. They don’t, not all of them do. Most of them are failed writers, they’re not even good writers, Okay? They’re bad writers. So, they don’t understand the weave. They’ll never be able to do it.

Trump Campaign Communications Director Steven Cheung issued the following statement on the former president’s remarks:

President Trump was brilliantly talking about the two assassination attempts on his own life, including one that came within 1/4 of an inch from killing him, something that the Media constantly talks and jokes about. The President’s statement about protective glass placement has nothing to do with the Media being harmed, or anything else. It was about threats against him that were spurred on by dangerous rhetoric from Democrats. In fact, President Trump was stating that the Media was in danger, in that they were protecting him and, therefore, were in great danger themselves, and should have had a glass protective shield, also. There can be no other interpretation of what was said. He was actually looking out for their welfare, far more than his own!

Last week, Trump made what some interpreted as violent remarks against former congresswoman Liz Cheney, whom he called a “war hawk.”

Let’s put her with a rifle standing there with nine barrels shooting at her, ok? Let’s see how she feels about it, you know, when the guns are trained on her face. You know, they’re all warhawks when they’re sitting in Washington in a nice building saying, ‘Oh, gee, let’s send 10,000 troops right into the mouth of the enemy.’

CNN and Erin Burnett called out the campaign of Vice President Kamala Harris on Friday night for appearing to play both sides of the conflict in Israel for targeting battleground state voters with conflicting messages.

On OutFront, Burnett was joined by CNN’s Andrew Kaczynski to discuss his investigation of the “fine line that the Harris campaign is trying to walk” while trying to court the Arab vote in Michigan and the Jewish vote in Pennsylvania.

Burnett aired an ad that is currently running in Michigan in which Harris declares, “What has happened in Gaza over the past nine months is devastating. We cannot allow ourselves to become numb to the suffering. And I will not be silent.”

A network chyron read, “HARRIS CAMPAIGN’S MESSAGE ON ISREAL-GAZA DEPENDS ON WHERE YOU LIVE.”

Burnett commented, “Well, it’s a very different story for an ad in Pennsylvania targeting Jewish voters.

In the Pennsylvania ad, Harris says, “Let me be clear: I will always stand up for Israel’s right to defend itself, and I will always ensure Israel has the ability to defend itself. Because the people of Israel must never again face the horror that a terrorist organization called Hamas caused on October 7th.”

Burnett welcomed Kaczynski aboard to discuss his investigation while she noted the tones of both ads were “historically different.” Kaczynski commented:

Yeah, that’s right. And look, this really illustrates the sort of fine line that the Harris campaign is trying to walk here in the closing weeks closing days of this campaign on the issue of Israel. Here you have two entirely different constituencies, and they are getting two entirely different messages there. Oftentimes, these constituencies have very opposing views on this.

If you are a Jewish person in Pennsylvania, you saw that ad that you’re getting. You are getting that ad that talks about how strong, strong she is in Israel. If you’re a Muslim voter in Michigan, you are getting that ad on Facebook that’s talking about talking about how she won’t be silent on the issue of Gaza. Now, what’s really interesting here is that ad that we that we just played, the one that’s going to judge Jewish voters in Pennsylvania.

Kaczynski pointed out that the ad Pennsylvanians are seeing was from the Democratic National Committee and was edited to remove comments Harris made in support of the Palestinians.

The CNN investigative reporter concluded, “So this is a really delicate issue for her.”

Bill Maher warned Democrats President Joe Biden’s controversial “garbage” remark may be more consequential than they are anticipating in the election.

On Friday’s Real Time, Maher argued Biden’s comment could be worse than Hillary Clinton referring to Trump’s loyal supporters as a “basket of deplorables” just before the 2016 presidential election.

“I think it’s a bigger gaffe than people think. It’s so funny, Joe Biden, his whole career he was like Mr. Gaffe, and then here at the very end, he’s like Aaron Judge in Game Six. He just fucking miffed a fly ball and at the end of the thing and blew the whole [thing],” Maher said.

Biden made his “garbage” comment when condemning a comedian’s joke at a Madison Square Garden event for former President Donald Trump. At the rally, comedian Tony Hinchcliffe jokingly referred to Puerto Rico as a “floating island of garbage.” Biden was later accused of calling all Trump supporters at the event “garbage,” something he has denied. The White House updated a transcript of Biden’s talk, changing Trump “supporters” to “supporter’s,” indicating it was Hinchcliffe he was referring to.

“I feel like it epitomizes everything that the Trump people hate about the Democrats. They look down at us. It’s like deplorables times 10,” Maher said.

Maher later criticized Democrats again by suggesting they may have looked “weak” in their reaction to Hinchcliffe.

“I think that’s another Achilles heel that they have,” Maher said.

The comic added he needed to “defend” his profession. While he called Hinchcliffe’s joke “offensive,” he noted that the comedian is famously an “insult comic.” Hinchcliffe is best known for his Kill Tony podcast, which is centered around Hinchcliffe and other comedians roasting open mic comedians. The problem, Maher said, was that Hinchcliffe was at the event in the first place.

“It’s like bringing cocaine to a funeral,” he said.

Fox News host Gillian Turner battled with veteran Democratic Party strategist Philippe Reines about the party’s embrace of former GOP congresswoman Liz Cheney on Saturday afternoon.

Reines accused former President Donald Trump of saying Cheney should be “shot with eight rifles” in a reference to the Republican nominee’s controversial Thursday statement calling her a “war hawk.” Trump said the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney should fight in battle if she wants to send American troops overseas. Trump told Tucker Carlson:

Let’s put her with a rifle standing there with nine barrels shooting at her, ok? Let’s see how she feels about it, you know, when the guns are trained on her face. You know, they’re all war hawks when they’re sitting in Washington in a nice building saying, “Oh, gee, let’s send 10,000 troops right into the mouth of the enemy.”

Reins joined Fox News Lives Saturday to discuss the final three days of the 2024 White House race with Turner when he referenced the comment. When Turner steered the conversation toward a series of recent gaffes committed by President Joe Biden, Reines misquoted Trump, drawing a response from Turner.

“Let’s fast forward to the other night. He said that Liz Cheney should be shot with eight rifles,” Reines said.

Turner replied, “No, he didn’t exactly say that because I understand this argument you guys are making. Reines fired back:

Come on. This morning, I don’t even know how to describe on family-friendly TV what he did. Now, the vice president’s closing argument is simple. She wants to fight for all of America. She wants to keep us going and she wants a fix, including the border. The border numbers have gotten better. And look, I’ll concede the border is a mess. The border is a problem that has gone on for too long. The border has been a problem that they inherited from Donald Trump and Donald Trump inherited it from Barack Obama, et cetera and so forth. It is a difficult problem that needs to be worked on much harder.

Turner responded to Reines by asking him, “Why are you guys clinging so feverishly right now to Liz Cheney’s endorsement? Obviously, the daughter of a man you guys call a war criminal, served a couple of terms in Congress. Why do you guys care so much?”

Reines argued Cheney is among hundreds of prominent Republicans who are not supporting Trump’s third White House bid, which makes her relevant.

When you think about money—saving it, paying bills with it, earning interest on it—you probably think of a bank. Or possibly Scrooge McDuck swimming in a pool filled with gold coins—but probably a bank. The average person in this country has more than five bank accounts, after all, despite the fact that banks aren’t always the best or friendliest places to stash your cash. Banks are the default location for your money so you can earn a (depressingly small) amount of interest, have a place to deposit your paychecks, and pay bills.

But they’re not the only choice for those services. If you’re looking for a place to stash your savings and perform standard financial transactions, you should look into credit unions. Although the number of credit unions has dropped over the years (there are currently about 4,600 insured credit unions around the country), their membership has steadily risen, with close to 140 million members as of last year.

There are some very good reasons why more and more people are joining credit unions—reasons you should consider, too.

The main differences between a credit union and a bank

At a glance, credit unions look just like banks. They both offer many of the same services, including checking and savings accounts, loans, and other financial products. The fundamental difference between a bank and a credit union is the profit motive: Banks operate on a for-profit basis, while credit unions operate on a non-profit basis. In other words, the bank takes your money, invests it, and pays you a criminally tiny amount of interest for the privilege. A credit union re-invests any profits into its membership and the community.

The other difference is in who uses them. Banks are open to anyone, although they can close an account or refuse to open one under certain circumstances. Credit unions are run on a membership basis, and there’s usually a requirement around that membership that adheres to standards set by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), whether it’s a specific profession, a local group like a church or school, or living in a specific community. Just like banks, credit union funds are federally insured up to $250,000, but the NCUA handles the insurance instead of The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC).

In practice, credit unions function very similarly to banks. But their non-profit orientation and community focus offer several key benefits that make joining one a very good idea.

Benefits to joining a credit union

Credit unions offer several benefits over a bank:

• Higher savings rates. Because credit unions use their profits to benefit their members, they almost always offer significantly higher rates on savings accounts, certificates of deposit (CDs), and other financial products (with some exceptions).

• Lower borrowing rates. Credit unions also tend to offer better deals on loans and mortgages, including 15- and 30-year fixed rate mortgages. Their used car loans are significantly better—the average interest rate on a 48-month used car loan at a credit union is about 1.5 points better than at a bank.

• Fewer fees and lower minimums. Credit unions usually offer fewer and lower fees than banks. For example, checking accounts can be 79% less expensive at credit unions than at national banks, and 54% cheaper than even small community banks.

• Community and voice. The crucial aspect of a credit union is that you become a co-owner when you join. That gives you a vote and a voice in terms of choosing board members, setting policy, and influencing where the credit union invests its funds. That also means that credit unions tend to be much more community-focused than banks, and more willing to make loans to small businesses that banks might consider too risky or offering too little return.

• Flexibility. Because you’re a member (and co-owner) of the credit union, it’s often much easier to qualify for loans or to make special financial arrangements than it is through a bank. That doesn’t mean there are no qualifications to meet or that the credit union just hands out money, but they’re often more willing to work with their members despite low credit scores or other problems that the banks won’t deal with.

Downsides to consider

One downside to consider with a credit union is the ATM network: Some credit unions don’t have a large reach in terms of ATM access. Many are members of third-party ATM networks like Allpoint or MoneyPass which can expand their reach, so it’s worth checking on this if you use your ATM card a lot.

While credit unions offer a lot of advantages, there are circumstances when banks will be your best option, of course. Banks offer more services, as a rule. And since credit unions have membership requirements, you might not be able to find one that you can easily join. And larger banks also offer a national (and possibly international) reach as well as more robust and secure online tools than some credit unions. But if you’re looking for a locally-focused banking experience that offers you a voice, a local credit union (here’s how to start looking for one) can’t be beat in terms of local focus, costs, and engagement.

As a spin class instructor and longtime Peloton fanatic, I am speaking with some authority when I say find people with bad group fitness etiquette extremely annoying, and that I know all the rules they should be following.

Now, the last thing I want is to discourage anyone from taking a class, so before I get into the etiquette and safety practices I wish more people knew, let me assure you: Wherever you are on your fitness journey, you should consider yourself welcome in a class, and should never, ever feel—or be made to feel—like you don't belong.

Unfortunately, when conduct and safety standards are unknown or ignored, people can end up feeling out of place. In order to help you avoid that, I spoke to a fellow instructor and a frequent class-goer (and leaned on my own expertise) to tell you the things we wish everyone knew before coming to class.

If you're new to a group fitness activity, arrive early

I don't just mean you should come early to your first class, although that's important. Consider yourself a beginner for at least your first five classes, since teachers, playlists, times of day, your own bodily circumstances, and other factors can make each class unique. When you're starting out, you're bound to run into workouts or instructions you didn't encounter in that first class, so err toward considering yourself a novice even a few weeks after you start.

Showing up early allows you to pick a good spot, check out the equipment, get yourself into the zone, and most importantly, tell the instructor you're new. To me, the greatest horror is when someone comes up to me after class and says, "Thanks! That was my first time and I loved it." I always give instructions for bike setup and safety at the beginning, but it's still better for me to know when someone is a newbie—and you may encounter teachers who don't do a thorough safety rundown or explain everything as they go. I'm happy to adjust a bike or even my playlist, give more detailed instructions, or just watch out for you.

Christina Phipps, a certified instructor who has taught full-body barbell classes for three years, agrees. "I love to help my newer participants feel comfortable before the class, so coming early allows you time to set up properly and I can give you a rundown on how the class works and what to expect," she says. Trust me: We'd rather help you set up before class than find out afterward that you were lost.

Use your gym's sign-up feature

I understand the hesitancy to use a sign-up feature if you're not totally sure you can make it to class and you know there are usually some empty seats for drop-ins. Still, if you can, please sign up in advance. Not only does this guarantee you a seat, but it helps us start on time. If someone who reserved a spot shows up and there's no equipment for them, the instructor has to spend time figuring out who the drop-in is. This is a time-suck, and awkward for everyone involved.

Having accurate data on who signs up and actually shows up also helps management in its creation and maintenance of classes. Behind the scenes, the gym needs that hard data to understand which classes are popular and successful, and which need retooling. If you like a class being offered at a certain time and want to see it stay at that time, signing up for it in advance can help ensure it does.

Choose your spot in class carefully

If you're new, I suggest setting up in the middle or back of a class. It's our job as instructors to make sure you can hear and see us, so if you can't, speak up about that. But positioning yourself farther back helps you because you can see how other, hopefully more experienced people are moving. If someone is doing something incorrectly or unsafely, the teacher will stop them out of a fear of liability, so don't worry about copying someone who's doing it wrong.

It's also more considerate of your fellow students. Emily Rella, who recently celebrated attending her 600th Soulcycle session and regularly joins other group fitness classes like pilates, says she gets annoyed when newcomers take a front row spot in a class they've never tried before. "Regardless of how in-shape or athletic you are, you need to have experience understanding how the specific class or exercise works before being able to lead the class," she says. "It throws everyone off, including people next to you."

Don't just do your own thing

I try to run a fun, adaptable class because I don't believe forcing people to do things they're uncomfortable with is a good way to keep them coming back or to help them meet their fitness goals. I make sure everyone knows that if there's a movement they don't want to do, they can adapt it, and I suggest different tension levels they can try throughout the class, keeping safety top of mind. I truly don't care if you don't feel like doing an all-out sprint on a given day. If being pressured or shamed into pushing yourself works for you, there are plenty of instructors out there who bring that energy.

That said, you do have to listen. I have had people show up to class wearing their own headphones, tuning out my music, cues, and class entirely. Other times, I've had people just ignore me for 45 minutes. I respect that you know what you want to do and how you want to work out, but gently request that if you're not going to participate at all, you wait until the classroom is empty, or use the equipment in the regular gym. Doing your own thing throws off everyone around you, and it's incredibly awkward. Instructors have to go through certification courses to be up at the front giving directions, so it can't hurt to listen to what they have to say.

Phipps, whose classes deal with heavy weights and who is adamant about safety, puts it like this: "If you’re coming to class, try to actually participate in what the class is doing and not freestyle your workout. If you walk into my class and proceed to ignore my instructions, feel free to walk right out back to the weight lifting deck."

Cut the chatter (and put down your phone)

This should go without saying, but please don't talk throughout the class. A little chitchat is fine, but yapping over the instructor the entire time is simply rude. It prevents other participants from focusing and hearing the instructions, and prevents instructors from being able to hear if someone is yelling for help (which is already hard enough with music blasting in a dark room).

Rella says people talking the whole way through a class is a major pet peeve of hers, as is when the class is designed to be in a dim room and people have their personal devices on full brightness.

I get it: You might have to respond to a text from your sitter or a work Slack, and I feel bad that the state of the working world is such that you can't take 45 minutes to unplug and focus on your fitness. But don't spend the whole class answering emails or texting. I know that sounds obvious, but you'd be shocked by how many people do it. In addition to being rude to those around you, it's a safety issue: You get distracted by the phone or the Apple Watch, miss a cue, look up, and realize everyone is sprinting or doing a lift or pose. You rush to do it but struggle to catch up, potentially injuring yourself in the process. It's a recipe for disaster.

Speak up if you're confused

You can be the most accomplished gym-goer in the world, but if you make one wrong movement, get distracted, or encounter something new, you can get injured—and that's not what any instructor wants. I started attending spin classes 10 years ago, and during one of those early classes, I got really hurt because I didn't communicate to my instructor when something felt off.

Know your limits, don't come to class if you're already injured and the class could exacerbate it (which is another rule that sounds obvious but is not followed), and speak up about any and everything you're confused about. The benefit of a group fitness class is you have access to someone who is trained to help you execute all the movements safely and effectively, which isn't always the case when you're working out alone at the gym. Take advantage of it!

If a movement feels wrong, stop doing it. The teacher may notice and ask what's up, and you can get real-time help. If you don't feel comfortable doing that or the class is packed, go up to them afterward. Either way, don't try to push through or you may regret it. "If something hurts or it doesn’t feel right, listen to my safety cues for adjustments and if it still doesn’t feel right, stop [the movement] and ask me for help after class," Phipps advises.

Fitness classes are supposed to be "fun"

Some people take fitness pretty seriously and that, on its own, is awesome. But don't come to class and treat it like its a life or death scenario. That will only stress you (and everyone else) out.

Don't be mean to other people. If I see you making fun of someone, you're out. I don't care that you're having a bad day. You have to go. You're in class because it's supposed to be a fun, communal alternative to grinding away by yourself in the gym. Don't forget that, or let yourself get too in your head.

Yes, in a group class, people are looking at you, but generally just to see if their form looks like yours—and most people are way too focused on listening to cues and executing exercises to really pay you much mind, especially if it's dark. You're not there to impress them and certainly not there to beat them. You're there for yourself.

"Have fun with it and allow yourself to laugh," suggests Phipps. "These classes are hard when you first start, but try not to expect perfection. Just let the high energy in the classroom carry you through." If a class isn't providing that energy, find another one. I've taken a lot of awful classes in my life. I simply didn't go back. Only attend a class if it's benefitting your fitness routine in some way.

Rella adds: "Go in with an open mind and an outgoing attitude. Some people will want to be in and out, and others will hang around the studio and chat after or before class, but your best friends you haven’t met yet could be standing right next to you. Worst case? You hate it and you’re out of there in an hour, max."
