JUST IN: Biden Issues Follow Up Statement Endorsing Kamala Harris For Democratic Nominee
President Joe Biden endorsed his Vice President Kamala Harris for Democratic nominee for president just minutes after announcing he was dropping out of the 2024 race.
Biden took to social media and answered many an immediate question raised by the omission of an endorsement of Harris from his initial announcement that he was dropping out, saying, “My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. ”
Biden continued:
My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.
Harris immediately becomes the Democratic frontrunner, and Biden’s immediate endorsement will almost certainly remove a lot of friction in terms of campaign funds raised for the Biden-Harris campaign.
It is still not clear what the Democratic National Convention will look like and if Harris will get the nomination or will she be challenged in a more open convention.
