A deepfake robocall using what sounds like President Joe Biden’s voice has been going out to voters in New Hampshire urging Democrats to stay home and “save” their votes for November.

“You know the value of voting Democratic when our votes count. It’s important that you save your vote for the November election,” says the fake Biden voice in the call, adding:

We’ll need your help in electing Democrats up and down the ticket. Voting this Tuesday only enables the Republicans in their quest to elect Donald Trump. Again, your vote makes a difference in November, not just Tuesday. If you would like to be removed on future calls, please press two.

NBC News reported on the electoral manipulation on Monday, noting that the message ended with a phone number belonging to former New Hampshire Democratic Party chair Kathy Sullivan – who now plans to file a report with both federal law enforcement and the state attorney general’s office.

Sullivan, who is running the write-in campaign for Biden in New Hampshire, first found out about the robocall on Sunday as she began receiving calls from voters who received it. Biden will not appear on the ballot in New Hampshire on Tuesday as a result of his urging the Democrats to make South Carolina the first primary state, an honor New Hampshire Democrats refused to give up.

NBC News spoke with Sullivan about the call, reporting:

It’s not clear how many voters received the call or which types of voters were targeted. Lists of voters’ phone numbers can be readily purchased from data brokers.

And Sullivan said that while it isn’t clear who is behind the robocall, “It’s obviously somebody who wants to hurt Joe Biden.”

“I want them to be prosecuted to the fullest extent possible because this is an attack on democracy. I’m not going to let it go. I want to know who’s paying for it? Who knew about it? Who benefits?” Sullivan added.
