Manchin Says There’s No Condition Under Which He Would Vote to Kill the Filibuster
Senator Joe Manchin (D- WV) has received a fair amount of national attention over his recent comments about the covid relief bill and his publicly-stated opposition to killing the filibuster.
On Fox News Tuesday night, Bret Baier spoke with Manchin about the procedural Senate vote on covid relief and what Manchin supports with respect to stimulus and local relief efforts.
Manchin’s comments about the filibuster came amid a Senate back-and-forth about a power-sharing agreement, and so Baier asked him, “Under what conditions would you vote to end the filibuster?”
“I don’t think there is any,” Manchin responded.
He brought up the rights of the Senate minority as a reason not to kill the filibuster and even said he believes there are other Democrats who agree with him.
“They’ll have to speak for themselves, but I’ve had good conversations,” Manchin said. “I think there’s people that feel exactly like I do.”
“It hasn’t worked well for anybody. We should work together,’ he added.
