Durbin Defends Tanden Over Criticisms from Republicans: Think About ‘Barrage of Tweets’ We Got from Trump
Senator Dick Durbin (D- IL) defended Biden OMB nominee Neera Tanden on Wednesday, pushing back on the objections from Republicans to her past tweets by bringing up the former president.
Right now Tanden’s nomination is imperiled by Joe Manchin opposing her in an evenly-divided Senate. It’s unlikely at this point any Republicans would vote to confirm Tanden. One reason Republicans and Manchin are opposing her is her past tweets slamming senators.
CNN’s Wolf Blitzer asked Durbin Wednesday whether it’s time for the president to withdraw the nomination and choose someone else.
“That’s not a decision for me to make,” Durbin said.
He went on to defend Tanden:
“Sure, she went overborad when it came to those Twitter accounts and the things that she said. And she said as much and apologized, said she was sorry for what she did in that respect. Think of the barrage of Twitters that we — tweets that we lived with for four years with this president. There were two words not in his vocabulary: ‘I’m sorry.’ She said she was sorry.”
