Mark Meadows Talks About House Floor Hug With Rep. Tlaib After Fiery Hearing Clash: ‘We Are All About Being Civil’

By News Here - 00:08

On Thursday night, Laura Ingraham interviewed Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC) on Fox News following the high profile clash he was involved in during the Michael Cohen testimony this week. Toward the end of that interview, Ingraham asked Meadows about his reconciliation and with Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI).

After Meadows brought Lynne Patton out during his time questioning Cohen — during which time he challenged Cohen about calling Trump a racist and argued that Patton, who is black, does not agree — Rep. Tlaib said on the record that it was a “racist” act, which prompted an objection from Meadows, and peacemaking by committee chair Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD). Ingraham and Meadows discussed that, then discussed Cohen’s testimony, and just before the end of the segment, Ingraham asked Meadows about hugging Tlaib.

Ingraham asked, “Were you hugging that Congresswoman, Tlaib, on the floor the House?”

“You know, I went down today– listen, we’re all about being civil,” said Meadows. “She offered an apology…”

“She was an outrage,” Ingraham cut in. “I know you’re being kind. Her comments to you were outrageous.”

“Well but at the same time, listen, we’re in a civil society. That what separates us from the other nations is a civil society,” said Meadows. “And I just felt compelled to go down and offer a hand of friendship and say: listen, if there was anything that I did that personally offended you, it didn’t come from my heart.”

“She hugged me, and certainly we looked at moving forward,” he said.

“That’s good. Because the word ‘racist’ is thrown around too casually,” said Ingraham.

“Fortunately for me I know I’m not a racist,” Meadows replied. After Ingraham said that even saying that can get you called a racist, he added, “We all say hurtful things. It’s more important that we reconcile.”

“Congressman, I’m glad you had the hug,” said Ingraham. “A Kumbaya moment. Good for you, you’re the bigger man.”
