MSNBC’s David Gura Defends NY Times, WaPo Pulitzers for Russia Coverage After Trump Says They Should Be Revoked
MSNBC’s David Gura this morning defended the New York Times and Washington Post after President Donald Trump went after both on Twitter again.
Trump, as Gura put it, “renewed his attacks on journalists” and called for the papers’ Pulitzer for Russia coverage to be taken away:
So funny that The New York Times & The Washington Post got a Pulitzer Prize for their coverage (100% NEGATIVE and FAKE!) of Collusion with Russia – And there was No Collusion! So, they were either duped or corrupt? In any event, their prizes should be taken away by the Committee!

“The two papers did not win a Pulitzer for coverage of collusion,” Gura responded. “They won it… ‘for deeply sourced, relentlessly reported coverage in the public interest that drastically furthered the nation’s understanding of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and its connections to the Trump campaign, the president-elect’s transition team and his eventual administration.'”
Gura also looked at how the reporting in question helped “shape our understanding of this entire story” by noting much of what the public learned from those reports in the first place.
