Heartbroken Capital Gazette Editor Recalls His Co-Workers’ Passion: They ‘Give All They Have Every Day’
Jimmy DeButts, Community News Editor, at The Capital-Gazette took to Twitter on Thursday to ask people to please give him space in the wake of the devastating events that shook his workplace today, leaving reportedly five of his co-workers dead and others gravely injured.
“Devastated & heartbroken. Numb. Please stop asking for information/interviews,” DeButts wrote. “I’m in no position to speak, just know @capgaznews reporters & editors give all they have every day. There are no 40 hour weeks, no big paydays – just a passion for telling stories from our community.”

Writer Phil Davis also took to Twitter in the aftermath of the deadly shooting to recall the harrowing experience.
“Gunman shot through the glass door to the office and opened fire on multiple employees. Can’t say much more and don’t want to declare anyone dead, but it’s bad,” he wrote.
He added: “There is nothing more terrifying than hearing multiple people get shot while you’re under your desk and then hear the gunman reload.”
