FBI Director Kash Patel sparred with Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA) over whether he fired any agents for their involvement in investigations into the January 6 Capitol riot or President Donald Trump during a tense back-and-forth exchange on Tuesday.

Patel said that never happened and that Schiff was just upset because “the truth” doesn’t fit the congressman’s “narrative” during a hearing in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

For several minutes, Schiff attempted to pin Patel down on whether he terminated any FBI employees “in whole or in part” for investigating the president. Patel said “absolutely not,” and explained “Anybody terminated at the FBI was done so for failing to meet the standards, uphold their constitutional oath, and effectuate the mission.”

The Democratic senator was not satisfied with that answer.

“I asked for a ‘yes-or-no’ answer. Did you ever terminate or discipline an FBI employee in whole or in part because they had been assigned or worked on an investigation of Donald Trump or January 6th?” Schiff asked. 

When Patel told him the same thing — that agents are only fired for failing to uphold their oath — Schiff was not pleased and ripped Patel for not answering his questions.

“I don’t have to answer your question ‘yes or no’ because you’re setting up a trap so you can have a media narrative,” Patel said. “And I’m not giving it to you.”

Schiff’s prodding comes a few days after three former FBI officials sued Patel, saying they were fired as part of a “campaign of retribution.” Earlier this year, Schiff claimed Patel was firing FBI agents who did not pass a “loyalty test” to President Trump.

The Patel-Schiff exchange on FBI employees continued for another moment before Schiff moved on to asking him about Jeffrey Epstein.

Schiff was not the only Democratic congressman to get into it with Patel on Tuesday. Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) also sparred with Patel earlier in the day, claiming he was not “fit to be in the bureau” and was “dividing” America.
