An angry Attorney General Pam Bondi walked off a White House driveway interview when asked to confirm a 60 Minutes investigation that found 75 percent of Venezuelan migrants rounded up and shipped to a notorious El Salvador prison have no public criminal records.

It all started when the reporter, who was not immediately identified, asked the AG about the “Venezuelan migrants sent to El Salvador,” the subject of the 60 Minutes report.

“OK, They’re not Venezuelan migrants,” Bondi shot back. “They’re illegal aliens from Venezuela who should not have been in our country, who are committing the most violent crimes.”

Read the full exchange here:

REPORTER: 60 Minutes found 75% of the immigrants who were sent to El Salvador do not have public criminal records. Is that true?

BONDI: Do you mean in our country?

REPORTER: The Venezuelan migrants who were sent to —

BONDI: OK, They’re not Venezuelan migrants. They’re illegal aliens from Venezuela who should not have been in our country, who are committing the most violent crimes. So if you committed a murder in our country, we’re gonna keep you here, and we’re gonna seek the death penalty, And we’re gonna keep you in prison because our victims’ families deserve that. But we don’t have to charge them with every which crime. We can deport them and get them out of our country and save room in our prisons because they should never have been in our country to begin with.

Q: So you confirm they didn’t commit a crime, right? Is that what you’re confirming?

BONDI: Thank you. [leaves]

As the reporter tried to confirm 60 Minutes’ findings, Bondi shut down the interview and walked away.

60 Minutes correspondent Cecilia Vega dug into the alleged criminal histories of the 238 Venezuelan migrants imprisoned by the Trump administration without any sort of due process in an El Salvador mega-prison and was unable to find a criminal record for 75% of them.

“The Trump administration has released very little information about the Venezuelan migrants sent to prison in El Salvador. But internal government documents obtained by 60 Minutes and public records indicate that an overwhelming majority have no apparent criminal convictions or even criminal charges,” 60 Minutes reported on Sunday.

Vega explained the findings on air, saying, “The Trump administration has yet to release the identities of the Venezuelan men it sent to El Salvador last month. We obtained internal government documents listing their names and any known criminal information.”

Over the weekend, President Donald Trump was asked if he would like to house American citizens in El Salvador’s brutal prisons. Trump replied, “I love that. If we could take some of our 20-time wise guys that push people into subways and hit people over the back of the head and then purposely run people over in cars, if he would take them, I would be honored to give them. I don’t know what the law says on that but I can’t imagine the law would say anything different. If they can house these horrible criminals for a lot less money than it costs us, I’m all for it, but I would only do according to the law.”
