The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is on the verge of making major cuts to the Secret Service and FEMA — a new report says.

According to CNN, the Secret Service and FEMA are among the next targets for Elon Musk’s cost-cutting agency. Further, the Department of Homeland Security is “bracing for what could amount to significant layoffs,” CNN reported Sunday.

In the article written by CNN’s Betsy Klein, Jamie Gangel, and Josh Campbell, the correspondents detailed the pushback from inside the agencies which are about to have their budgets slashed.

“There was back-and-forth negotiation and lobbying between DOGE, the White House, and Homeland Security leadership, with each of the department’s components expected to be impacted differently,” Klein, Gangel and Campbell wrote. “The Federal Emergency Management Agency, FEMA, is expected to be decimated.”

The cuts to FEMA come as parts of the south and midwest have been battered by torrential storms. On Sunday, President Donald Trump approved emergency declarations for Arkansas, Kentucky and Tennessee in the wake of devastating flooding in those states — clearing the way for FEMA to provide resources.

As for the Secret Service, its leadership has pleaded with Congress for more resources in recent months. Former acting director Ronald Rowe sent a letter to Congress in September urging a funding increase. Immediately after the July 13 assassination attempt on President Trump, agency personnel told congressional staff it would need more personnel in order to keep Trump safe. The Secret Service put out a recruitment ad ahead of February’s Super Bowl — which reportedly cost in excess of $2 million, and was directed by Michael Bay.

CNN reported that the budgets of Customs and Border Protection and ICE are also set to meet the DOGE axe — despite the border being a high-priority for the Trump administration. A senior DHS official defended the cuts in a statement to CNN — saying they are “determined to eliminate government waste that has been happening for decades at the expense of the American taxpayer. Across DHS, we will be eliminating non-mission critical positions and bureaucratic hurdles that undermine our mission to secure the homeland. Secretary Noem is determined to return DHS to its core mission of keeping America safe.”
