Karoline Leavitt Declares There Will Be ‘Hell to Pay’ If Iran Doesn’t Agree to Trump’s Demands in High-Stakes Talks

By News Here - 12:08

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt warned Iran there will be “all hell to pay” if they do not agree to President Donald Trump’s demands during nuclear negotiations set to kick off on Saturday.

At a White House press conference on Friday, NBC News’ Kelly O’Donnell asked about the upcoming talks while noting that Iranian officials prefer not to have a “face-to-face” meetings with U.S. officials.

“They don’t want direct face-to-face negotiations, instead that shuttle diplomacy where they’re in separate rooms and messages are passed back and forth. So is the president comfortable with the arrangement there and what is the chief objective?” she asked.

Leavitt said the president prefers face-to-face negotiations and his major demand will be that Iran never obtains a nuclear weapon. If that demand is not met, Leavitt said, it will be made clear that “all options are on the table.”

Leavitt said:

I have spoken with the president and also his national security team who will be engaged in these discussions. These will be direct talks with the Iranians and I want to make that very clear. I spoke to the president last night about his goal when it comes to Iran. He has reiterated to all of you publicly and also privately to his team at the White House that his ultimate goal and ultimate objective is to ensure Iran can never obtain a nuclear weapon. The president believes in diplomacy, direct talks, talking directly in the same room in order to achieve that goal. But he’s made it clear to Iranians and his national security team will as well that all options are on the table. Iran has a choice to make, you can agree to President Trump’s demand or there will be all hell to pay. That is how the president feels very strongly about it.

Trump’s administration will engage in talks with Iran in on Saturday. Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff will travel to Oman where he will either meet directly or indirectly with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. Iranian officials have maintained the talks with be “indirect,” while Trump’s team have said they prefer not going through a third party.

At a recent White House meeting, Trump threatened that Israel will involved in a “strike” against Iran should they not agree to the nuclear weapon demands.

“If it requires military, we’re going to have military,” he said.
