Karl Rove poured cold water over the Trump campaign’s claim that it has benefitted from a post-debate polling bump with undecided voters in a recent appearance on Fox News, declaring that “every other poll” conducted since Donald Trump’s showdown with Kamala Harris has suggested that the movement has been in Harris’s direction.

Rove, a Fox News contributor and Wall Street Journal columnist, was asked by host Paul Gigot over the weekend about “how lasting the impact” of the debate will be, “if there is any?”

“I don’t think it’s as good for Harris as her camp probably thinks and I don’t think it’s as bad for the Trump campaign as they might fear,” replied Rove, who nevertheless noted that if it has even “a 1% or 2% impact on the electorate, that could be decisive.”

“It’s five out of the seven [swing] states separated by less than a point,” he explained.

“So Tony Fabrizio, the Trump campaign pollster, sent out a memo later this week saying that their surveys show that the movement among undecided voters was towards Trump. Do you believe that?” inquired Gigot in a follow-up.

“Well, every other poll shows tha- has been conducted since the debate shows that the movement has been towards Harris, albeit very modest,” answered Rove. “So I’m, you know, I’m always suspicious of campaigns that issue their own numbers in order to correct a bad day. But you know, right now the evidence tends to lean the other way. But again, modestly. I mean, we’re talking about changes in these polls, I think of the four polls I’ve seen the biggest change is two points.”

According to RealClearPolitics’ average of national polls, Harris held a 1.2-point lead over Trump on September 9, the day before they debated. As of Tuesday afternoon, one week after their meeting, Harris leads by 1.8%.
